  • The Turtle is not as well liked as the Hare!

As a new golfer I am always worried about learning or knowing the basic rules of golf so that I don't inadvertently slow down the game. There are already lots of cliches out there about female drivers. Let's not make more cliches about female golfers. Although, I also know of some hackers out there that are males! So I'm going to bite the bullet and ask: "What can a golfer do to avoid slow play? Does anyone know of a website or book with helpful guidelines?"

    Queen Beach,

Check out the following link: http://www.golfserv.com/apps/tools/etiquette.asp

It's a rather helpful tool on standard etiquette. Most of the time slow play is not actually caused just by a person shooting over 110 or whatever. It's actually caused by players who do shoot over 110 but also are not ready to play their shots after their partners have hit.

      QB,
I agree with Ego Woods. I am ALWAYS playing with Duffers but some are really fast and some are really slow. If you can understand "ready golf" then you're good to go. Doesn't matter what handicapper you are. There are also the little things that are only understood with experience. ie: first person who holes out, gets the flag ready to be put back...putting your golf bag on the side of the green where the next tee box is...writing your score at the next tee box so you dont hold up the approaching players...and on and on...Ego Woods will teach you all that, but I'm sure you know lots already...

Hey Ego, hmm...well it's good to know that the slowest golfers aren't always the high handicappers! I've checked out the website and find it really helpful as well. Thanks.

QB...looks like they've given you alot of sound advice...the only advice I have is don't put so much pressure yourself irregardless who you play with. You'll find the more relaxed you are then faster your preparation.

Hey SFV, not sure what your name means but I hope you don't mind that I shortened it. I try not to pressure myself and to play in relaxed mode. But the Laws of Golf work against me! And I turn into this...

I find the more frustrated, upset I get at the game, the more the game becomes less forgiving.....as soon as I realize that I'm starting to lose my cool out there in the course, I try and start relaxing myself and calming my state of mind...that's when the shots usually start coming back.....

golf is not like those other sports where you can translate your anger into something positive like bball or hockey....
