With my group of golf buddies we play rain or shine. Occasionally we find water puddles in the fairway or greens. What do you do if you encounter Casual Water hazards? You are allowed to lift and drop your ball within one club length no closer to the hole at the point of entry. Keep in mind that you must drop and not place or else there is a penalty.

another piggyback on your thread....:D ......what happens if you see a large water puddle in the sand bunker?

The options you have are:

1) Play it as it lies...no penalty

2) Lift the ball from the water puddle and place it somewhere in the bunker that is no closer to the hole w/out penalty

3) If there is no point of relief in the bunker and thus the water puddle covers pretty much all of the bunker, then you can drop at the point of entry into the bunker no closer to the hole. The catch? You incurr a 1-stroke penalty.

Ok...so we are allowed to move our golf ball within one club length and no closer to the hole. What happens if we drop our ball and it roles closer to the hole? Or when you drop the ball and it roles back into that casual water on the fairway? Can we pick it up and drop it again or play it as it lies? Will there be a penalty for playing that ball that roled closer to the hole?

Good question Queenbee,
Correct me if I'm wrong but in that case if the ball rolls back into the water or closer to the hole than you pick up and drop again. If the result is the same than you're allowed to place the ball so that it doesn't move. I don't believe there is any penalty for that unless you placed the ball in the first attempt and played your ball. Hope this doesn't confuse you.
