for those who actually follows lpga more than pga....

omg omg omg...HUGE come from behind for Annika (from 16th hole)...
now they (with Lorena ochoa) are tied after 4 rounds..going into playoff...

man!! i wish its aired live on TV!!! I can't stand refreshing lpga.com every minute with my heart pumping!!

anyways..Lorena was leading by 4 shots going into the 16th hole..then she bogeyed and double bogeyed 16th and 17th respectively.....with only a one shot lead...Annika birdied the 18th to tie! and Lorena got par...now they are going into playoff!!

..but now when i watch it on TV again tonight..the excitement is probably not as high since i would know the result already..

stupid golf channel...

just my rant...

*edit*
blah..i got confused with this event with another...this is not the 4-peat event...
but this was the event where she shot a 59!..and she defended her title too..
she's amazing..she broke/tie too manyr records..got me confused...now...blah..got TOOO excited for nothing..
hehe sorry guys!
it IS her FOURTH consecutive tournament win however...(2nd this year)...maybe that's why i got confused

it was the mizuno that she won 4 times in a row..aiming to win 5th consecutive time..for which no other player have done it before..

Thats huge!! Annika is truly one of the best to ever play in the LPGA. Good for Annika, hope she breaks the record of most wins by an LPGA player. Its too bad the LPGA doesn't get the exposure the way the PGA does. Strictly a business thing I know....I know...

I think the LPGA would get better ratings if they could have their final round on Saturday. I would rather watch the conclusion of the women then the third round of the men.

I love watching the LPGA. If you ask me who's the best player of them all ... PGA, LPGA, etc. ... my answer is Annika. Period.
Nobody else is pulling off 8-9 wins PER season. Talk about dominance.

I hate to badmouth anyone with my first post, but to say Annika is the best player in any tour is cazy. Is she by far the best on the womens tour yes, can she be compared to anyone on the mens tour, no. Is she better than anyone on the mens tour, most definitely. Is she the best player on the mens tour, obviously not. She wins 8 or 9 times every year mostly because she is that talented but lets be honest, there are only at most 25 players that could win each week on the LPGA compared to quite easily 150 players on the PGA. The talent level on the LPGA is watered down. Now you women on here dont go taking this the wrong way, All the power to you for playing the game and being talented at it, but I just cant deny the fact that there are "better" players out there. Furthermore I think its absurd to try to compare players between tours, or even between eras (ie. nicklaus vs. tiger). We should just let players have their own identity.

hi hititlong, welcome to the forum.

you are welcomed to your opinion! please feel free to express yourself as long as it does break any of our rules :) i agree with you btw, IMHO, she is definitely not the best active player on the tours.

Add to that is not having a major LPGA championship during the same week as a top event on the PGA Tour.

This idea makes a lot of sense. Why won't someone suggest it to the broadcasters? There's be more days of the week to look forward to. :)

hmm Shadow what is considered a major LPGA event? The Kraft Nabisco Championship, McDonald's LPGA Championship, U.S. Women's Open Championship, Women's British Open? I'm sorry to say that I don't watch much women's golf. I blame it on the fact that the major networks don't provide enough TV coverage and when it is on TV they put it mostly on the Golf Channel or ESPN2. (I don't have those channels.) So I don't think changing the LPGA's schedule of events to start on Wednesday would help me much.

The leading money earners on the PGA are Michelson, Singh and Woods, and they draw a large viewing TV audience. I'm sure that's why the major TV networks ABC, NBC, CBS and ESPN broadcast tournaments that they play. Meanwhile the leading money earners on the LPGA Sorenstam, Ochoa, and Kerr don't have that kind of drawing power. They make significantly less money even when compared to the leading earners on the Champions Tour. For the record the Champions tour isn't broadcast much either but I have no interest in watching their events. I do however wish the LPGA was on TV more but I don't see that happening soon.

watching the PGA before LPGA is almost a given atleast for myself.....but most definitely I would watch the LPGA over the Champions Tour and the Nationwide Tour despite the competition most likely being higher in the latter two...

Welcome. Yes, you make valid points. Points that have been discussed on many other forums before. Yes, the men on the PGA Tour are stronger, more exciting to watch, and the list goes on and on and on.
But please bare with me and consider this for a moment ... if all would be equal for whatever twisted reason, I'm positive Annika would win that tournament.

You can say whatever you want (and you're mostly right doing so) but there's something about Annika that stands out. Not even Tiger has that cold blooded desire to win. She is like a female version of the Terminator. Trust me, if she could find a way to even the playing field between PGA and LPGA she would do so. And would go on her quiet way to kick some serious butt.

It sounds utterly silly but I believe if all the other players on the LPGA would go on steroids or whatever, Annika would still win.
Maybe it's because she is a woman and has to constantly proof herself to every hack sitting on some couch watching golf on TV ... but there is a desire burning in her that even Tiger, Phil & Co. don't have.

That's why she is the best of them all. At least in my book.

Now feel free to call me nuts. haribo

not about to call you nuts.... maybe just on yoru way to getting there. Annika by far, obviously, best women playing the game. But consider this: her driving distance stats for instance (274) compare quite comparably to the likes of Chris Dimarco, Joe ogilvie etc etc. so to say that power is the difference isnt really fair. It is clear that she hits it as far or further than some of the best male players in the world. The question I have then is why does she fail to make cuts with the guys then when the playing field is the same?

Cheers.

p.s. I enjoy watching her play just as much as the next person, i just love good discussion.

C'mon, she played once with the boys at Colonial. Saying she's not making any cuts (plural) is a bid much, isn't it. Unless you mistake her with Michelle Wie of course.

She barely missed at Colonial. Let's not forget the media went completely nuts. They had more press and TV guys there as at the Masters or any other major tournament for that matter. If any of the PGA guys other than Tiger would be under that kind of scrutiny they would fail miserably. Just look at how many Pros decided not to play for whatever reason. Simply because they were scared to death to get beaten by a woman.

Give her credit were credit is due. Two wins at two starts for this season. Nobody else is dominating like she does. I for once hope she's gonna tee it up with the men in a tournament again. I'm sure the result will be different.

don't forget that she just came out of a divorce...and to put her personal side aside and still able to win 2 straight tourneys...that's pretty amazing..

look at tiger, he and his tiger slump started when he started to have a serious relationship.

of course the men are stronger...but if you look at consistency (meaning if you weigh everything else equally), she's the best player out there.....

you can't compare the guys and the girls and players between era strength wise....but you can with consistency and accuracy.

hititlong
Mar 22, 2005, 03:47 PM
most certainly you can compare people for consistency and accuracy and Annika as I have said many times is the most talented female golfer in the world. I simply said she is not the most talented golfer in the world period.

And to say she is the most accurate is null because in todays game its not at a premium to be accurate. All the top players have said they would rather have wedge out of the rough than 7 iron from the fairway.

I also mentioned that we should not be comparing men to women, nor comparing across eras. There is no measurable that makes comparing golfers easy, the only one I can think of is who ended up placing better in the events both have played but even this may not be accurate. Someone plays well one weekend and not the next, happens all the time.

hmm...hititlong,
I think you are comparing annika with the guys too literally....if annika, tiger, VJ were to play a round of golf starting at the same tees..then yea..tiger and VJ probably are gonna kick annika's butt...because annika doesn't have the distance

but if you look at career wise..and how annika has been dominating for the past 5+ years...then Annika is clearly the better player overall today...as she did not have an "annika slump".....past #1s like Duval and Tiger....had their slumps (while Duval is still slumping)...and even the last female #1 Karrie Webb only dominated for like 2 years before she sank....and just recently began the process of getting her game back together...even VJ had a major slump of almost 4 years before he won the PGA championship last year..

and also..many people have said this before...the only way to compare men and women literally is to compare from 120 yards and in...if so..then Annika would be the best player in the world, male or female.....her short game is amazing.

but then..that's just me.....and i may be a little biased too since i'm a huge annika fan...but i'm sure i'm not the only one out there that thinks this way...
but hey, everyone is entitled to their opinions! and I'm liking this....finally we got to talk a little about the LPGA on this forum :)
