Thanks for the info. I am not expecting the tee times posted until after I go home Friday at 5 p.m. so I usually call the course for the blocked times because Great Lakes have yet to post an amatuer tee time more than 12 hours before the event. There are a few reachable par 5's there so I would think the scoring could be low.

FYI...they are printing the scores for the amatuer events in "Fairways". I saw the tournaments up until Olivers Nest last night.

UHOH.

I called the course and got the times (range)

1 & 10 are reachable with a mid to low iron depending on how well you've struck the drive.

Its my "home course" Im really expecting to hit some decent shots and maybe make a putt or two. My caddyman will be keeping me in line and making sure I dont attempt to hit driver from the rough at 295 yards out. :cookoo:

So did you get your time or just the block of time for the GLT? I just registered for it last night so I am guessing they don't have my specific time yet?

you're a funny guy.

check the website at about 10pm on friday night and they should be posted. They have a lot of people signing up late so its hard for them to get the times to us in advance.

Kara did send out an email saying they were 1045-1230. There is a range at Copetown and an excellent food menu, atleast there is something to do.

felsteinb
Aug 23, 2006, 08:46 PM
very true, where is the range? I played there once but don't remember seeing the range.

This is my first GLT even this year so I am pretty excited even though my game is not up to par right now. Is there any freebees when you get there? I don't even have a GLT membership card. Do they give that to you your first tourney or should I have gotten one in the mail lol?

If Ryan and I put our heads together we should be able to figure out what a decent swing looks like.

This is my second GLT event this year, I have also not gotten my membership card. There should be free range balls on Saturday and at Cambridge it came with a ticket for lunch.

Felstein, let us/me know how its run. I'm curious on how the GLT is run since its nice to have options. I'm in the Golftown Tour this season and I find its run very well and will definitely be my first pick for next season. Its nice that we have the chance at winning something too even if we don't place well on any given event. I can imagine how frustrating it might be not knowing your tee time until the night before...we know our tee times 5 days in advance which is nice especially if the event is a far drive.

The last GLT tournament I went to, the tee times were up late due to a family affair that kept them away.

Everything seems normal, scoring after 9 (or 18 depending on what tee you start)

Everything is paid out in gift certs for various places. We even get deals on any Callaway products as they are a sponsor.

Well I played like S*** lol. I have a pretty good 7 hole and fell off completely. I really need to start practicing more. I have no consistency and have trouble keeping up my game through 18 holes. I want to take lessons next year for consistency but am not sure where I should go to get a good swing coach that doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

I was one of the victims that got stuck in the foursome and held up play. I tell you I have NEVER played with anyone as slow as the second girl. The first girl was fine and if it had been a threesome with her alone (don't go there you perverts!!) there would not have been an issue. THe other girl would do a Sergio over EVERY SINGLE SHOT. First we got put on the clock on the 5th or 6th hole (we started out on 10). Now our first hole 3 of 4 of us bladed our shots over the green and the one slow girl did have a rules issue and we did have to wait for someone to come out and clarify, but after that there were no further issues. I understand the rules of golf state the entire group is put on the clock, but us 3 did our very best to try to make up the time. We walked ahead, played out of turn ready golf, putted when everyone was not on the green. Every possible scenario to speed up play was tried. But this girl was just so slow. Also, I didn't think it was the right choice for Great Lakes to put the foursome out as the first group and to put the girls with 2 "A" flight players. Wouldn't it make more sense to leave the odd numbered group as the LAST group out so if they were slower (which would make sense because it is 4 instead 3) they aren't slowing down the tournament? THen on the 11th hole (2nd) they push one of the threesomes through. THen on the 13th (4th) they break us up into twosomes. The whole experience was VERY distracting to playing the round.

I came off the front 9 at +3 and started off par, par on the back. I was pretty happy with my play to that point. I was really enjoying playing with the guy in our group and he was keeping everyone loose with his good sense of humour. When they broke us up into twosomes I went +5 over the next 3 holes and then settled down to play the last 2 or 3 holes even par but by then the damage had been done.

Then after walking off the 18 the green (9th) after our gruelling 5 + hour round all 4 of us (2 at a time) were given verbal warning about our slow play and now we have little stars beside our names if it happens again we get penalized.

Having worked at golf course before I totally understand how slow play destroys the day for the course, and I completely understand how and why we were spoken to. I also understand that the rules of the game state it is the GROUP'S responsbility for slow play. Like I said the 3 of us did everything we could possibly do to make up the time. Other than running down the fairway we applied EVERY single possibility to make up the time. This girl was just brutal. She was there with her parents and between the 3 of them they just didn't make an effort to pick up the pace.

Now that I have finished my rant, it was a good day. Great course and until we were broken up into twosomes I was enjoying myself despite the pressure of being on the clock. I played well until the breakup.

If I was playing a casual Sunday afternoon round it would have been a pleasure playing with the slow girl, as she was very nice and a decent player. But being in a competitive situation it was hard to be as kind hearted. The entire group was warned more than once, and both a Great Lakes person and a Copetown person told the girls father to pick up the pace but they just kept on walking like it was a Sunday stroll in the park.

I have enjoyed the events in Great Lakes and will be exploring my options for next year playing some competitive amatuer stuff, but I truly cannot understand why the 4some is put out first.

Yes it was. Like I said she was a sweet 19 year old girl who was obviously nervous, and for that I feel for her. Having said that our whole group paid the price, not to mention the whole tournament and the tee times that were booked after the tournament. She will learn over time, it just wasn't a lot of fun being the ginnea pig. Live and learn. Hey we weren't qualifying for the Canadian Open, and it's over now, let sleeping dogs lie.

So what was the winning score in you flight?

Also, I think I need to be your Stevie Williams......

-2 was posted as I got in my car. Not sure how many groups were left.
