Hey Everyone,
Well...dreams do come true. I'm heading to the 2007 Masters next spring. Got tickets through my best friend's wife's grandmother who is a ticketholder (God Bless her!!!) Anyways, we've got 'complete' tickets, meaning we can go to the practice rounds and all 4 days of competion. Now, I highly doubt that we'll go every single day but I guess that's my question....Are there any suggestions as to what the best way to see the Masters is?
Is is better to go early in the week (less crowds, not as much drama) or later (crowded but intense)? I'm looking for any types of suggestions here from where to buy merchandise to where to park to which golfers to follow...anything. Any information that past Masters visitors can provide, I'd really appreciate it...

Congrats. You're in for a week that you'll never forget and cherish for the rest of your life.
If you're staying at a hotel, there will be shuttles to and from the course. My advice would be to go every day and spend as much time there as you possibly can. Get thrown out at the end of every day because chances are you'll never go back. Masters merchandise can only be purchased on the grounds. There's a merchandise booth set up next to the main entrance and another much larger one down a bit to the right. There's also one under the granstand at Amen Corner. On sunday, I highly recommend getting to the 18th green as early as you can to find a prime spot around the green. Set your chairs down and take in that day. I left a couple hundred dollars worth of memorabilia under my chair and never worried about it once as I took in the action all over the course. When you get back to your seat towards the end of the day, it won't have moved an inch and all your stuff will be there. There's nothing like sitting around the 18th green watching the groups walk up the 18th fairway, and hearing the many roars around the course.
Also, make sure to have many cheese and pimento sandwiches, $2 beers and $1 lemonades. Food and drinks are cheap on the course. It's not like other PGA events where beers are $6 each and sandwiches are $10.

Being live at the Masters is one of those the things to do before you die if you are a golfer.
Augusta National is a lot more hilly than it looks. So comfortable footwear.
In addition to Laxgolf's insights, I will also add that keep an eye on the patrons. You will see a lot of rather famous people there side by side watching the actions with you.

WOW! You are one lucky son of a...........gun!
Maybe I misread something, but are future Masters tickets going to have names on them and the names have to match your name? Don't want to scare ya, just advising you.

I went in 2004. It was pretty awesome. I did not see ONE weed on the course, not one. The fairways look fake, like astro terf. It wasn't until I got back to the hotel that night that I truly realized where I had been. Enjoy!!!

You're right but that for people who are starting to get Master's tickest as of now...does that make sense? My friend's Grandma who lives just outside Augusta is approaching 90 so this is gonna be one of our last chances to go as I have heard that you can't pass them down anymore due to this naming convention thing you were talking about...
Either way, I don't know the details but I've been told with confidence that we are a go. Thanks to all that have posted...I'm super jacked to go. I'll take as many pics as possible and then post them all publicly for you all to see...
What about following a golfer? I'd like to follow Vij or Ernie but their crowds may be a bit big...any sleeper suggestions?

You're going to have a great time! I've been to practice rounds in the past, but got a chance to go on Sunday in 2003 when Mike Weir won in a playoff. The course is spectacular, make sure you just take it all in. I remember going to a practice round when I was a kid and we parked the car on grass nicer than most fairways. Not sure whether you like to follow golfers or stay in one spot, but here are some tips:
1) Bring a small fishing chair, something that folds. They sell them at the course too. An astonishing fact: If you leave your chair somewhere, nobody will steal it. I didn't believe it at first either. We went in the morning and plunked our seats(cheapo Walmart seats) down at the 16th green(par 3 over water) and then we left and walked around. We came back several times during the day and just sat down in our reserved seats. When all the big groups were coming through at crunch time we had prime time seats.
2) Get behind the tees if you can rather than off to the side. Watching these guys play from behind is better, you get a better perspective of the ball flight and just how far they hit it, plus you can see the entire hole from their eyes and how they shape the ball for the hole.
3) Definitely go to at least one practice round and take pictures! Take some of the golfers and lots of the course. Being there in person is outstanding and you want to capture that. Blow up some pictures and put them in your den at home, it's a great memento.
4) During the practice rounds, walk every hole at least once. During the tournament, you might want to follow certain players or the leaders, so make sure you see every part of the course you can during the practice rounds.
Have a great time!

If you are not using all the days tickets please let me know. I'd be interested in a practice day etc...
Although, I'm sure this isn't the first request you've had.

Hey folks...I've had quite a few requests for tickets by TGNers (seeing that we might not be going everyday) and will do my best to accomodate but I'm getting the tickets through a friend's wife's Grandmother so I'm sure that any day that we're not going have been accounted for by some people that are 'closer' to Grandma than me....Know that I mean? No harm is asking I'm just saying that's it's highly doubtful that I'll be able to get the tics for the days that we aren't going....
Papermate, thanks for the advice...I will definitely bring some collapsable chairs with me so we can pick a hole to watch the excitement. I defintiely want to walk the grounds so I think I'll pick a golfer and walk with them...I'm thinking someone like Luke Donald, a good player but won't have a huge crowd...
