View Full Version : Why I like Tiger...

I like Tiger because he yells "fore" when he bombs it into the gallery off the tee. Most Tour guys just stand there as their ball hurls itself into a crowd of people. Tiger always yells. Is it "beneath" the other guys to yell fore? Is it because they don't want to sound like a hack? Mickelson likes to stand there and watch his ball fly into the gallery without so much as a word of warning. He looks more worried about his score than the he is about the gallery. Tiger isn't too proud to yell and he's the world #1.

I'm not so sure he yelled fore when he hit that guy in the bright green shirt in the back with his drive... in the replay you could see that none of the spectators were expecting it. If Tiger had yelled fore, people would have been looking out for the ball instead of just walking around and not paying attention.

You'd like me, then.

I yell "fore." A lot.

It doesn't matter who you are... at a busy golf course (especially with a gallery) I'm sure it's hard to hear anyone yell about 350 yards away!

And if you do hear it, it's quite difficult to get a reasonable sense of where it came from.

Or which way it's going! When I'm on the course and hear someone yell, I figure out which way it's coming from and turn my back and DUCK! That's not very easy to determine at a pro event. Even if you did hear it, it's almost impossible to figure out who said it and from where because there is so many people and so many golfers.
But on the particular shot that someone was talking about with the guy getting bagged in the back, he did yell on that shot....right after he hit it.

There are, I guess call them marshalls, on the tee box advising the other marshalls down the fairway as to where the ball is going.......also helps these fairway marshalls to find the balls.

Even though the gallery 300+ yards away may not pick up Tiger's "fore!" it's nice that he extends them that courtesy. Fans tend to overanalyze the things he does wrong (swearing, etc.) and I think the small positive things tend to get overlooked.

He's Tiger Woods, he knows they'll find his ball, but it's not about that. From the time he was a junior golfer he has yelled fore when he sprays it left or right and he continues to do it at the highest level. That was my only point. It's just another thing he does better than many other players.

I'm a huge Tiger fan, but this recent article has me STEAMING mad at his decision not to come out an play here in Canada.

I can understand him being tired and all, but what's with this constant detouring around Canada and coming up with excuses everytime the Canadian Open comes up!!!!!!!!

Rant over......I'm just a huge fan of Tiger and am really, really upset that he is not coming to Canada, AGAIN.

RACMBS,

How come you are so upset? Everyone is counting on him not playing. It is not a surprised.

It is understandable to be ticked off if he said he would come and then bail last minute, or if he typically plays this tournament. But he typically does not play at the CDN Open.

I said in my post exactly why I'm upset.....last time I got to see him was when I worked the Canadian Open at Royal Montreal when I lived in Montreal several years ago.

I've been following him since his collegiate years ever since he teed it up at his very first US Amateur and I guess I've just grown disappointed that he keeps dissing us Canucks and side-stepping our tourney to play in other events.

It was nice seeing him in Canada those few times, I just hope we get the chance to see him here again in the near future. :)

Even when they yell "fore", it probably gets drown out by the idiots who are yelling "it's in the hole!!!".

He doesn't need to on every tee there are usually 2 marshalls and 2 spotters along the landing area. When the ball is struck the marshalls signal the direction of the ball. Rigth left or down the middle. Yelling fore is redundant or just a reflex. It's not necessary.
