Just to separate some actual content from the noise, is this format still valid?
As for format, here's what we'll do
We'll play 2 v 2 in each foursome. There are 5 points up for grabs in each match. If anybody watched the Tavistock cup (Isleworth vs some other posh Florida gate community), you'll understand. Here's how the points are broken down.
Better Ball - Player W1/Player W2 vs Player E1/PlayerE2
Singles - Player W1 vs Player E1
Singles - Player W1 vs Player E2
Singles - Player W2 vs Player E1
Singles - Player W2 vs Player E2
Please correct me if I pasted something that is out of date.
My question is in regards to the mixing of a Best Ball format with Match Play. If 2E and 2W go out in a foursome and one of the points involves Better Ball (see def'n at bottom of this post) but the majority of the points are match play. Then that means each player *must* putt out on each hole and cannot simply concede, because of the best ball scoring.
So that means there really wouldn't be any concession of a hole unless that one player has blown so badly that it's obvious they would use the partner's score for that hole.
Am I correct?
Definition of Best Ball (as it relates to teams):
"2-Person Best Ball" is a best-ball competition format in which the teams consist of two players. Played as one team vs. another, whether stroke play or match play, it's simply another name for Four Ball (http://golf.about.com/cs/golfterms/g/bldef_fourball.htm). Each player on the team plays his own ball until completing the hole, then the lower of the two scores is recorded as the team score for that hole.
