Went into the local golf shop yesterday, and while waiting for my new grip to be installed a gentleman came in with a brand new Callaway FT-3.

He asked myself (and the store attendant that didnt know  ) what the shaft was all about in the club.

Apparently, he went to the Callaway Fitting Centre and hit drivers for an hour to get fitted...his swing speed is 90-95mph, mid-high traj player.....and an 8 hndcp. They tried all different combinations and was recommended to have a 9*, with a Graphite Design YS-6 STIFF.

The poor guy, he was sooooo frustrated. He hits his 3wood 220-230 (he said) and his new $600 pride and joy? 220 yards! Absolutely no carry, low ball flight......he hated it! The head even came loose, so back it went, and came back fixed......still couldnt hit it.

In the end, he found a Mizuno MP-001 with a reg flex and 10.5* loft and was hammering this thing great!

Now........what does he do with the FT-3? Can he complain and get his money back since it was their fitting and recommendation? (or the place of purchase) OR is he stuck with a $600 paperweight until he can unload it onto somebody elses?

If he can't hit it, why didn't he just go back to the Callaway fitting center and tell them he wants to change shafts??

Callaway has the best Customer Service in the business and am confident that they would have done everything possible to make sure he was taken care of.

I don't think going out and spending the money on a brand new club was the right approach, frustrated or not.

In the end though, Callaway will not give him a refund......

That was my first suggestion was to go back to Callaway so he could get the proper loft and shaft........he wanted nothing to do with it he said. I dont know, after buying a club like that I think I would have gone back and got what I wanted.....you did afterall pay for it. I think it just left a bad taste in his mouth.

You know how compulsive some guys can get with golf equipment.....see something new and shiny........"hey, thats the ticket!"

I in no way steered him into buying ANOTHER club......but I said "hey.....if thats what you want". While he was at it, he grabbed a MP-001 5 wood too! I dont think money was too much of an issue.

He can give the club to me, I will proceed to have the shaft changed and use this new bomber to beat up on Westies all day long :p

If he doesn't want to spend the effort to go back and get refitted, then he really has no basis to complain. Things go wrong, simple fact of life. Would he throw his car into the ditch and get a new one if the check engine light came on and his steering wheel starting to shake violently?

racmbs is right, Callaway has the best service in the industry and would have refitted him and given him a different shaft or whatever was necessary to optimize that driver for him.

You should have told him to come on TGN to sell it :)

 I almost told the guy that I could get rid of it for him......(via TGN of course!):D I'm sure I could have given you right-handers a good deal!

If he didn't mind getting kicked around, low-balled, asked a bazillion questions and then told "I'll think about it", then yeah...he could have sold his $600 FT-3 for around $225 in the BST. :D

It's too bad the guy has had such an unsatisfactory experience. My first thought is that I would have taken my old driver with me to the fitting as a comparison. I also carry a Mizuno MP-001 in 10.5 with an R flex shaft and it's the longest driver i've carried.
