Well, I am officially done with waiting...it's been close to 7 weeks, and I am getting sick of sending PM's which don't get read/replied or trying to arrange meetings which never seem to transpire.

Would skipper, songman, TehFlakes and Chambokl PM me ASAP...if you have time to start/post in another thread, you have the time to at least do me this courtesy...and next time, if you're not going to honour your committment, don't play!

If it makes you feel any better (I know it won't),but I didn’t receive all of my orbs from this years Masters :( or last years British Open :(. I figured it was on the honor system, so some people honored and some didn't, and maybe some forgot but they know who they are;)

Some people can afford to buy a sweet new ride and take the time to brag about it, but can't afford the time/cash to send out a sleeve of balls... Very lame in my opinion.

I'm glad you finally called them out.

Don't participate in the pool if you're not prepared to pay up when you lose. Yeah, it's a pain in the butt to send out balls, and that's why I didn't participate in the final pool of this year.

BTW, I hope the winners actually received the balls I sent for the US Open Pool and the British Open Pool...

While I can appreciate the fact that ppl have busy schedules, its the lack of communication which kills me...I love this forum and try to give ppl the benifit of the doubt...don't make me lose my faith...

And skt07, i try to send out a PM as soon as I receive anything, but if I didn't in your case, I'm sorry...the sleeve came through without problems...thx again...

Now I know that these 'pools' aren't worth my time!! :(

That might be a bit harsh, BS, as I'm confident that the majority of people would never think to stiff the winner.

A few bad apples is what I hope this all amounts to.

I think that there should be a limit, say 2 or 3 weeks to complete delivery and then the winner should post a list of those that haven't completed their part. Next step would be that those individuals can no longer participate in these pools. (after that, we send Dennis Leary with his 9-iron and fish boots to pay a visit...)

Life things happen. But at least communicate. When I won my first Golf Channel Pool I got stiffed by 12 people out of 72. Most of which never posted under the same handle again. Karma get them.
From this years PGA pool I have received the winnings from two people, email from two more regarding the send date, and then two others who have yet to fulfill or communicate when they will.

P.S. For one of you don't let not having the HX Tours stop ya. Send the ProV's. Kids in the juinor program love'm.;)

one way to do it..that ive seen through other forums..is that one suggestion is to only allow those with more than certain amount of posts to play those who don't have enough posts and want to participate needs to PM the organizer first and explain how they would not stiff the winner...or use some proofs like B/S/T iratings or ebay ratings..

I suggest you send the sleeve to one person , this would be your entry fee, once the results are in the winner would get them.

While I agree there should be some sort of regulation on this, I strongly disagree with some sort of 'segregated' participation, especially if its based on post counts...many of the ppl who responded right away had single digit post counts, and I am still waiting to be contacted by ppl with hundreds of posts...

I find that most ppl are concerned with with their online ratings, so if we put a guideline that you must contact and arrange something that works for both the winner and yourself within a certain time period (say 2-3 weeks)...after that, you get bad feedback, or something of that nature.

double shipping would probably rival the cost of the balls.

I say, if you're late, you're done. 4 week max until balls must be at winner's house. Posting the list of people that have to ship balls, continually updating it online will give some incentive to get off their @ss and follow through on their comittment. (Oh no, there's that word again...)

Not a good idea. It limits some of the people who would most likely pay up first. This pool, like the game of golf, runs on the honor system. Cheating the honor system is just bad mojo.

What happened to something as simple as the "honor" system?

A lot of thought is going into something that really only needs people to be true to their word and sticking with promises.

I know it sucks that people haven't ponied up, but in the end you REALLY haven't lost anything. It is however, good to know so that in the future if they attempt to get involved in future pools, they won't be welcomed.

then just don't allow those who didn't honour the system to play in future rounds unless they talk with the organizer..

i was actually gonna suggest paypaling the money too ($5?..i dunno how much a sleeve costs since i never buy just a sleeve of balls).....just makes it so much simpler...

If they don't pay up, then they don't play future pools. That is why, since we started the pool, I have suggested to people to keep a list of who did and did not send.
Paypal would only have the same issue as fearsome is having now. The people that truly did not intend to pay up, would not do it neither.
I would like to point out that I think all the people on this site intend to follow through. Tardiness for what ever reason is just something that happens and really is not a big deal. After the British I had Fearsome's sleeve at my house for two weeks before I sent them. I sent him an apology and mailed them before he had to send me a reminder.

I'm sorry, but I don't agree with this statement at all. He is in fact losing out on his rightful prize.

For example, say you buy a lottery ticket for $1. And you win! Yay, you won a million dollars! But then OLGC tells you, "Sorry, but we're out of money and can't pay you, but here's your $1 back. But since we're giving you your $1 back, you didn't REALLY lose anything."

I guess the poster above would not mind if this happened to him, since he didn't REALLY lose anything.

You enter a contest with the expectation to win something. You're willing to risk your $1/sleeve of balls/whatever with the expectation that you have the chance to win a prize that is better than what you're risking.

If you're lucky enough to win that contest and you don't receive the full payout, you in fact REALLY did lose something (you lost what is rightfully yours).

As the winner of the last pool, I suggest you post the names of those who have not payed up on the next pool, they would than not be allowed in the pool.

Golf is a game of honour, we call ourselves on our own penalties, this should translate into life, if you can't figure that much out you deserve to be singled out for everyone to see your true colours.

Well its a long shot that you'll start answering PM's now, but I'll give it a shot anyway.

Please PM me or respond in http://www.torontogolfnuts.com/showthread.php?t=11235 with the status of the sleeve.

That's brutal!!!! I can't beleive that somebody would be such an a**hole and not send a sleeve of gall balls after entering a contest!!! What's makes it even funnier is when they boast about their new clubs and new cars but they can't put up the $12 for a sleeve of balls!!!

With a bag like this, you would think TehFlakes could afford a few balls. Unfortunately, his behavior is evidence of his lacking any balls of any kind.

Maybe all three of them have a good explanation for why they can't step up and honor their commitments, but until they post their side of the story, I feel pretty bad for FearsomeKoala.

It's especially annoying when some of these members are actively posting in other threads (e.g., http://www.torontogolfnuts.com/showthread.php?t=9753).

I hope some of the Mods have been in touch with the three delinquents regarding this issue, as behavior like this can easily kill all future Major Championship pools, which would be a shame.

I was simply commenting on the fact that it's a shame it turned out this way, but it's a blessing he didn't ACTUALLY lose something like you would lose your wallet or car keys. Your analogy makes sense, but mine was just meant to act as an "outside" apology, or as an offer of sympathy as I certainly wouldn't want to be in a position like that. :)

I just didn't want the people who didn't pay up to feel like it was OK for them to neglect their duties. I know that everyone on this thread means well (except for the 3 delinquents, but they're not posting here anyway).

Well, although I did not ask them to, it sounds like the mods have become involved in the matter because now, at least I am getting longer PMs from TehFlakes, rather than a single word answer...I don't know that I'm glad for it, but at least I know who I'm dealing with.

Quoted from PM from TehFlakes:
[When you] decide to lock that thread i'll get your balls.

I had them on friday when i went shopping, but when i heard about that thread while in the car with swaaain, I said to the hell with that, and taking this public/ and the pm's is out of line.

so wehn you decide to stop it, Pm and i'll put them in the mail.

As I mentioned to racmbs, I would much rather suffer the loss of a sleeve of balls than in any way 'validate' your actions by deleting/locking anything i've posted...Do you really think your reputation is worth a sleeve of balls?!?

Next time you choose to flex your muscle, save yourself the trouble and just post it in public...and if you think trying to arrange 3 meetings to save you the trouble of shipping and waiting 6 weeks is out of line, then I'd like to talk to you the next time you have transaction...

Tehflakes, I hope you've got a good reason for giving Gary the rails here. After all that everyone does for you, you can't come clean on a pool that you entered???

Personally, I'm giving you a chance to come clean here. I've never asked you for a dime all the times I've ever driven you anywhere and I'm sure there's plenty of others in the same boat - this is not good that you shaft someone when others have gone out of their way for you.

So, clear the air here, or never be in my sight again.

There seems to have been quite a few developments over the past few hours, and as things currently stand I have heard from songman, chambokl and TehFlakes' 'representatives'.

For the most part, it sounds like life has gotten in the way of golf, and again, that is something I can completely understand...It's sad that a few simple PMs could have avoided this whole mess, but for what its worth, things seem to be getting 'sorted out'.

skipper has been MIA for a few days, but perhaps I'll get to hear from him soon...

Hopefully, this is the only hiccup in an otherwise great idea, and we can go back to simply picking the best team of golfers for the next pool, which is tough enough on its own...

To a pleasent surprise for a change...I came home to find a bubble pack in my mail box, which surely enough contained a sleeve of balls. What was even more surprising was that this sleeve was not from any of the pool competitors, but rather from the TGN forum representatives.

This gesture is completely above anything I expected from this whole process (all I expected were the sleeves owed to me - nothing more, nothing less). I saw these pools as something that was done by the forum members, for the forum members...It should be moderated and policed by the competitors , their common courtesy and honour (much like golf).

Again, I'm sorry that your involvement was required and thank you for the effort. Hopefully we never have to hear of another such situation.

I speak only on behalf of myself in this post, not on behalf of TGN.....this is my personal feeling on this matter.

I'm puzzled by the fact that it takes something like this to bring people to make good on their word and send something as CHEAP/SIMPLE as a sleeve of golf balls!!!

I've also sent THREE PM's to skipper and he has ignored ALL of them. As far as I'm concerned, this person's intention was that of never completing his/her end of the deal. I don't care what the excuse is at this point, there is no excuse for ignoring PM's and a simple explanation could have saved this person some face and maybe even provided some understanding. Plenty of opportunity was given to allow for this to happen.....what gives with the ignoring???

Sorry you had to go through all this BS, Gary, I hope it doesn't sway you from not participating in another pool in the near future, nor does it sway others from not participating as well.

Just an update on the situation:

I received two sleeves this morning...one from SoNgMaN and one from Chambokl...This leaves a sleeve from TehFlakes (should be in the mail) and a sleeve from skipper who seems to be ignoring all forms of contact, so I'm not holing my breath on that one.

That's funny, because he contacted me and said he was going to send you the sleeve....guess he was just full of BS again, which doesn't suprise me one bit as his sob story in the PM to me was full of BS too.

Write it off Gary, he's nothing but a dead beat.

I feel really bad for sending my callaway balls to Bob and happen to have some pro veeees kicking around but they have a line around them. I'll send a sleeve to you.

Please PM me your address.

Are you sending me a sleeve of Pro V's, or Gary? If it's to me, then thanks as I lost four yesterday!

If it's to Gary, then you Westerners are OK in my books Danno. :D

Hey Dan,

That is a very nice offer of you, but it is not necessary...When I started this post, I was looking for nothing more than a little help with the communication side of things, since many ppl were just ignoring/too busy to answer PMs. Life things happen and I understand that, but most of us are on the forum at least a few times a week (some more), so a PM shouldn't be out of the question...but I digress...

In any case, that is a great offer from you and I thank you for it, but I'll make do with the the sleeves I got.

6 weeks? That's just nuts. Well over a month is plenty of time to spend avoiding something that you knew were obligated to do. I can't foresee many things in life that take you out of the loop of life so far that you forget all your obligations for almost two months. Especially for those who are and were posting here daily over the time period.

Total BS and CHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAP. If Fakes doesn't pony up I'll give you a sleeve of ProV's myself. Responding 'doubtful' is just an indication of what the initial intent was, however it's just sadly masked behind a 'you made fun of me' defense. After all the work you've done you deserve your rightful reward.

Having to call someone out into public to make them even respond is sad. Kudos to those that stoud up immediately and paid their due dilligence.

Exceptions can be made to the above but you'd be hard pressed to find a viable case. Strangely I only found out about this thread when a TGN'er told me about it. I had to check for myself because I didn't think it was true.

Hey Fearsome,
Give us an update. Is Skipper the only outstanding one?

Well, I can tell you that I have 12/13 sleeves...as to who is missing for the last sleeve, I honestly haven't a clue.

The name on the envelope which carried the last sleeve of balls does not match the name I have from TehFlakes and I don't know skipper's name.

Also, when I made the post about the 'mysterious TGN' sleeve I received [which turned out to be from Rocknronny], I got a PM from TehFlakes saying that "if they are Nike One Platinum balls" they are from him. Now I asked for Pro V1's or TP Red's, and the sleeve I just received are Pro V1's, so I don't know who is going to take credit for the most recent sleeve...alas, I think this is all I'm getting...
