Hello fellow GolfNuts

I have finally convince the wife to give golf a try, we have a 9 Year Old girl and I'm thinking is only a matter of a few years until she doesn't want to hang around with us anymore, at that point I think it would be great to be able to go golfing with the wife once in awhile, and even be able to go in golfing vacations. Anyway, she has never tried and I'm wondering what would it be the best way to get her to start the right way.

We are in the West End (North West Corner of Mississauga) and I think she should be better of learning the basics from a pro (She could save years of trying correct mistakes learned at the beginning like I did because I wanted to learn on my own)

Anyways, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Also, I'm planning to introduce my daughter to the game this year, by getting her into at least a couple of weeks of golf summer camp. Any constructive opinions will be also greatly appreciated

Mirak,

I would suggest you contact Tina Clahane. She works at the DiMarco Golf Dome during the winter, and out of Trafalgar GC (my home course) in Milton during the summer. You can get the details at www.tinaclahanegolf.com (http://www.tinaclahanegolf.com/)

She is a really nice person, knows her stuff and enjoys teaching. I've heard a lot of good things about her, and my wife has been taking lessons since last summer. She's reasonably priced, and has some good packages. She also owns her own camera/software etc. if you want to tune up your own swing.

Cheers,

Alan

P.S. Welcome to the board :)

There also is a ladies only golf program that is held every year at many different locations across the city. It is for all skill levels and is ladies only, which I imagine would help in the comfort level for learning.

And welcome to the board.

I recommend you rethink getting your wife to play. he he he he

Seriously.... don't even think of teaching your wife yourself. I was an assistant pro at Deerhurst years ago. I play to a 3 handicap. I own video equipement. My home course is 5 mins from home. All that and I don't even consider teaching my wife. I leave that job to another pro and I don't offer unsolicited advice on the course.

Nothing will ruin your wife's round quicker than you constantly hounding her with advice... even if it is correct advice. Note : Most men (like 99%) give they're wives the worst advice possible. Face it, you may have been playing a long time but most of you have no idea when it comes to teaching and it would be better if you left that job to a real professional and left her alone on the course so she can work on what will make her a better player. She will thank you for leaving her alone out there and she will enjoy it more.

I'll get you the contact info for Louise Zealstra. She is a Futures Tour player and runs an excellent junior program out of the Oaks Of St. George. She also travels to teach and to play.
