What is puzzling to me is that there are published reports that Wier is 'losing' distance. It is one thing that he is being out-drove by the fitter, younger, and bigger competitors, but how could he be losing distance, given that one with his statue have easy access to the latest and greatest technologies.
What next? Replacing Brennen Little?

wier seems like a good guy and all....
but he is a terrible "icon: for canadian golfers. he is just like the rest of the average players on tour. won the masters once and that makes him a god??
i.m.o, he is terrible and needs to get a new goal and possibly a new carrer.

I can agree with perhaps setting new goals but I think saying he needs a new career is a tad presumptuous...i.m.o

I wish I was terrible enough to be #33 in the PGA.

Sorry, I was agreeing with you and was trying to direct my comment to MT. I don't agree that he should be looking for a new career.

I thought you were leftintherough, I think something may have gotten lost in translation. I was agreeing with you and saying it was presumptuous, harsh, and many more things.
My bad for not being clear.

I think Mike Weir is a tad above the average journeyman PGA golfer. Unfortunately, he has never had the advantage of being long, and this is hurting him when the courses are getting longer and the roughs getting more severe. The big hitters bomb a drive over the hazards, and even though it may be in the rough, they are able to muscle a wedge to the green. Weir has to have his A game with accuracy, an exceptional wedge game, solid putting stroke and mental toughness. These held him in good stead in the Master's win and the other majors in which he competed, but that's a tough way to contend day in and out.
Funny, Mike Wilson was once on the Golf Channel with Paul Stankowski , who was clear that he is strictly a feel golfer and positions and swing thoughts were meaningless to him, so I don't know what they were working on. I see that Dean Wilson, who used to be a Mike Wilson student, also switched to Weir's new instructors. I believe Dean and Weir are close friends.
I see Baddelley is with the new guys. His fellow pros marvel at his swing because it is what they describe as simply a turn and a turn, seemingly no conscious swing mechanics. Perhaps, Weir is needing this type of change, to free up his swing.

Maybe we should direct him to the fine tips by Mr. Goshawk to help out his game?

Whatever the reason for the change (obviously to get better), I think its a sign of good things to come. For a while I thought that Weir was "satisfied" with his game, gotten a bit lazy, and it didnt seem like he was working as hard as he used to. I could be WAY off here as I dont see the man day after day....its just the perception I get.
At least him making a change shows a willingness to shake things up a bit....perhaps those commercials with Steven Aimes on TSN has ruffled his feathers a bit. Weir doesnt seem like "Canada's only hope" anymore.........but he wants to be Canada's No. 1 "hope".

I saw this in the star the other day and I thought it was interesting:
Trouble is, after playing at Disney World and Innisbrook, he actually fell two spots, his frustration boiling over to the point he was reprimanded and fined by the PGA Tour for cursing on the course.
I think he needs to get rid of his head shrink Dr. Rich Gordin and get someone else, this guy is obviously not working out.
His final round scoring average is terrible - 172nd on the PGA Tour. In 2003? he was 12th, then 123rd in 2004, 160th in 2005 and now 172nd. Something else is wrong, not just his swing.
