Can anyone out there explain to me why people wear golf shoes to hit off a mat?
Tiger will shoot 96 at Augusta before your spikes penetrate that slab of fake turf. What's up with golf shoes at the range?

I do it because I'm used to golfing in my golfshoes. The fit, the height, the way I go up on the toe of the shoe on my follow through. All part of the practice routine for me. Practice with what you play in...

(that being said, I do not rock the golf duds at the range though. I'll be in a t-shirt, cut-off t-shirt, jeans, etc. Gotta wear my shoes though..)

I cant wear my golf shoes at the range because im too fat to put them on. Ill pull a muscle trying to put them on and be unable to practice.

We have grass at our ranges so we wear them when we go. In the early spring when the grass is too wet I dont wear them on the mats either.

This year I have been wearing them on the mats because I'm trying to get the feel of my new shoes.

If I'm hitting off of grass I always wear them. I just feel more comfortable in them.

I have an old pair of spikeless Bite golf shoes that I keep specifically for use at the driving range and for winter simulator golf.

funny cause i asked my friend this 2 days ago, he was telling me he doesn't wear his spikes on the matts because it'll just wear out his spikes faster, he rather just save them for on the course...
