People refer to "The Slam" like it's something Tiger has a REALLY good shot at! We're not asking him to hit a 2 iron past the 150 marker at the range. It's not like Miller Barber, Mike Reid, Briny Baird, Sam Sneads brother-in-law, and Casey Martin have done it already, and we're just waiting for Tiger. We're waiting for the guy to beat EVERYONE in the field for four Majors in a row in the same year. Don't get me wrong, I'd love it if the big guy could do it, but I just think it's disrespectful to Tiger (and all of his accomplishments) and disrespectful to the game of golf and its history, to freely toss around this "Slam" thing all the time. The guy won the Masters.....let's let him enjoy it.

He had all 4 major trophies on his mantle at the same time. That's slam to me.

I'm not too sure what you're asking......if Tiger already completed the Slam or he's going to win all 4 majors this year. If you're asking if he can win all 4 majors this year, then I'd say NO....competition is much stiffer out there. However I do believe he can win one more major this year...:D

If it's the other question you're asking, then I'd say holding all 4 majors at the same time seems like a slam to me, but it's definitely debateable since it wasn't in the same year...no matter what it is, it still was no easy feat. :)

I think what he did was incredible. It was "a" slam.
Would people consider it better if he did it in one calender year?
I think most would say yes.
That is why winning all four in one season would be called a "GRAND SLAM". It would be considered by many a greater accomplishment to win all four in one year. I am not saying that is the correct perception, but I strongly believe most people would consider that a greater accomplishment.
Personally I don't think it matters because the golf season never ends. Their is no golf "season". If their was a substantial break between seasons, maybe it would matter.
As for talk of him winning the grand slam this year, does it really matter at this point? Can't we just play it out and see what happens. When he has one three maybe we could talk.

So a SLAM is having all 4 majors at once while a GRAND SLAM is having all 4 majors in the same season. I can live with that.

haha, natural grand slam debate...heh...i think Tiger made quite an achievement by having all 4 trophies at the same time. something very few in can say they have done (in any sport)

just like in hockey, there are differences between a natural hat trick and a hat trick so i guess he will have to do it all in one year before people get off his back haha...

The grand slam would have been easier to attain back in Slammin Sammy's day cause there was way less REAL competition.
In todays' game there are way too many awesome players that everyone expects to contend at the majors. Everyone has essentially the same equipement and ball. Caddies all use lasers for yardage on Mondays through Wednesdays so they're yardage books are deadly accurate.

He held all 4 titles at once so I think that counts as a SLAM! I hope he can do it again during his career.

Tiger accomplished something no one has in a long time but not golf's grand slam. Call it the Tiger Slam - the Nike slam - the whatever slam you want, but it wont be the grand slam of golf like done by Bobby Jones. That is something for the ages.
