Just looking for a bit of info, and maybe some of you have some ideas or knowledge.
One of my friends has a younger sister who is 20, a university student, and looking for summer employment. Given that she looks quite good, is very sweet and personable, I figured she might be good help at a golf course.
Questions:
1. For the girls who drive the carts, what is the range of tips they would get in an hour, or average for a day.
2. How hard / easy is it to get one of these jobs... is it basically members / friends of members?
Any advice is appreciated.

I would say that the job would likely be demeaning in some regards. Beyond that I know nothing.

When I was a member the gratuity was rolled into the price. Usually everything was chitted, there was only one of the servers that I gave tips to beyond that. Simply because she was a good server, remembered everyones name, and would go out of her way to make sure you were having a good time. The others were terrible, and if I could I would have taken the portion of the cost that was for gratuity back for the poor job they did. Several were alot better looking than the one that offered great service, but that didn't matter to me when I was paying for beer not looks.

If the girl doesn't have a good sense of humour tell her to not bother. She has to understand she is dealing with half drunk guys who are doing male bonding time, a recipe for sexist behaviour. IF she understands that and will know how to handle herself in situations like that then she could do quite well. If she is one of those "go with the flow" girls then she could make lots of $. Tips are based on how she can go with the flow and like I said if she has a good sense of humour she can do quite well.
I played with a guy one day who said his girlfried was a beer girl and made $10K in a summer, although I can't verify that.

Tell her don't apply to a private golf course! Gratuity is built into their wages BUT she'll get to play the course for free.
As everyone has mentioned, she's got to be willing to be ready to be hit-on and flirted with. Being quick with the math doesn't hurt either. Nothing worse than waiting for the beer girl to add up 4 beers and 3 choc bars and get the number wrong twice... but if she's attractive and flirty, she could double that tip. LOL
Yes yes, us male golfers are a dirty bunch. :$

Perhaps you can email these girls, and chances are, they can provide better answers than the people here who are struggling in their attempts.....

I knew a girl (very attractive) who was a bartender at a big TO club on Friday and Saturday nights. She made approx $500 every week from tips not including her wages and this was 8 years ago. I would guess that this would be about $700 in today dollars. Over 4 months, this works out to be more than 10K. I would suggest that over the beer cart gig if she can handle the hours.

Cart Girls, if they have the right personality, can make a ton. It is not uncomon for some of our girls at Lionhead or Royal Ontario to pull in over $200 in tips per shift. There are some days that they will do up to $400!
Believe it or not, personality trumps looks. A few years ago, Lionhead had a girl (part Asian) with very average looks but a wonderful personality who consistantly outsold and drew better tips than any of the stunners. That same year Lionhead had a girl who could have been on the cover of Vogue, but her personality was so bland that her sales and tips were brutal.
If this girl has an outgoing personality, is honest and has a good work ethic, tell her to send her resume to info@kaneffgolf.com . She'll do quite well.

Any time I've been to Royal Ontario I have found the service to be sub par (on course service that is). The dinning hall, pro shop and bar were great, but the service on the course was lacking. Seems they were very slow, and had an attitude, that may have been due to beeing very busy all three times I was there however.
I did like the course though. Reached number 18 in two from the blues, and made my bridie (I only wish I could putt like a pro), I'll always remember that hole because I crushed my 3 wood longer than my driver, and probably longer than 95% of any drives I've ever hit :-)

Pace of play is terrible, on course service leaves alot to be deisred but beyond that I don't mind the course. That being said I have never payed out of my own pocket to play there, so perhaps that is why I didn't mind the place.
