I won a nice windproof Shell at a charity event this summer. I am asking if anyone has advice for me.
I want to take out the stitching wear the name of the charity is sewn in on the sleeve "2006 Annual Proctologists...." If I were to pluck it out with a sharp object would I just ruin the shell or leave a faint impressions where the stitching was?

For the record I was being serious. Just wondering if anyone has any advice before I may or may ruin a sweater...

My girlfriend is a fashion designer and she told me to advise you NOT to do it. Provided it is actually embroidery, she lead me to believe there will be a whole whack of tiny little holes where the stitching existed (seems pretty intuitive to me now that I think of it that way). So I'd just leave it the way it is despite it not being the most desireable of things to have on your jacket ;). Apparently there are some ways to minimize the damage but she said its a terrible burden and not fool-proof.
You could always get a patch or something you liked, rip out the embroidery, sew on your patch, and get liquid seem sealer to seal around the patch. That's my two cents, not hers ;).

Could have been worse, they could have botched the stitching and would have read: "2006 Anal Proctologists"

I Agree with your friend. It would ruin it. It is best not to pick at it.
I did think of a patch. But where can you find a suitable patch for the sleeve. What would I get that won't clash with a beige coloured sweater. Not a maple leaf.

Check out Queen west in the fashion/fabric district. There are alot of unassuming patches there. Having been forced to go shoping for fabric many times I've killed plenty of time looking at patches. Nothing is amazing, but some pretty bland ones there.

I found a rectangular patch that matches closely the colour of the sweater.
So in honour of my golfing idol Ali G I got a patch made up "Westside Massive"
