Did anyone see the ceremony for Stevie "Y" last night. Class all the way is what Steve Yzerman is. His greatness was somewhat overshadowed during his career due to #99 and what he was doing, but you won't see another Yzerman for a long time if ever again.
He over came contraversy early in his career and stuck with his team and his organization. To Detroit's credit they didn't cave in and trade him during their growing pains, and their patience paid off a few times in the 90's with Stanley Cup wins.
Will there ever be another Yzerman type player who plays his entire career in one jersey again in the new salary cap NHL. It's hard to say but one would have to say no. For example what are the chances that Crosby, Malkin and Staal will play together on the same team for their entire career? Slim to none would be my answer. Maybe one of them might stay, but who knows.
Sakic is the only guy left who comes to my mind who has played with the same organization from the beginning, and when Joe retires it could be the end of an era.
