some friends and i want to get away this "winter" nothing fancy, just somewhere around ontario to get some skiing/snowboarding in. we've never done the whole overnight chalet thing before so i need some help choosing a spot.
anybody know of some great spots to get a chalet and do some skiing?
i've checked the usual suspects (blue mountain, horseshoe valley, mount st louis moonstone.) but wanna see if there's some special spot u guys go back to every year.
i havent' been back to those places since i left Toronto 7 yrs ago so i don't know what's going on.
any help would be greatly appreciated, since somehow i've been bestowed upon the responsibility of organizing the trip...
btw...all are welcome to join my friends and I once the plans are in place...

i think the best would be blue if snow starts to fall and they have more then 3 runs opened!! they have a nice village where you can do other things when not on the slopes. a little bit of shoping, lots of places to eat as well. never been to moonstone myself, but between horseshoe and blue, i personally like the slopes on blue (like i said, when snow is actually covering the hills =P) depending on your budget, you can also look into vermont or even tremblant

did some research today, and it seems tyrolean at blue mountain seems the best...some really nice chalets WITH hot tubs!! gonna look more into it for rates and such..as it seems that every place i look, they give a very broad sense of pricing.

Hey Ace,
I am not sure if much is open. Even the ski hill in Kirkland Lake (Kanasuta) is closed.
There is just no snow even up north. Good luck,

Extended forecast is saying mild temps into mid Feb at least. Better save up for Whistler, because you ain't skiing nowhere in Ontario this winter. However their golf courses may be open!!
You can thank Sergio Garcia for this (El Ninio) with a bit of global warming for good measure!

Myself and my friends had a condo at Blue Mountain for New Year's weekend (29th to 1st). Unfortunetly, due to the weather we weren't able to hit the hills, but the facilities are great and we still managed to have a lot of fun (ie. beer pong, poker, etc...)
We've stayed in the same place for the past couple of years now. It's the Wintergreen condos. They have 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a loft, a sauna and a large living room, kitchen and dining room. There's lot of room for people to sleep.
Last March there were 8 of us and for 2 nights over a weekend it was about $80 each for the condo.
They are located right across the road from the main parking lot in the Village and are about a 4-5 minute walk to the nearest chair lift.
Here's a link to Blue's site for the Wintergreen condo:

I think we'll be booking it again later this year to actually get on the hill (if it ever snows).

I've always found it well worth the extra drive to go to Quebec - better ski/snowboarding, more culture, and a huge variety of resorts to choose from - from small family getaways, to intrawest village resorts.
(Now I'm not sure if by 'overnight' you literally mean 1 night - in which case I would suspect you don't want to spend 12 hrs round-trip driving....)

okay, so here is what's going on....if i can get enough people/interest..i'm going to inquire for this great chalet all to ourselves..
i have some freinds that are intereseted in going, but i would like more.(so it's cheaper for everyone else) the cap is 16 people..i have maybe 8 so ther'es plenty of spots left. i'm not looking for anything set in stone, i just want to know if there's enough interest that if i do book it..people would want to go.
so either reply or pm me that you're interested, and let me know how many people, what days are good, how much ur willing to spend on chalet only, and any other information that you think i should know.
also...i'm thinking in terms of feb. to early march sometime...not right now!! so i dont' want to hear about how stupid this idea is cause there's no snow...I KNOW THERE'S NO SNOW!! hopefully we'll get some snow and i'll have to start rejecting people because they're too late!!!
btw..here's the chalet i'm thinking of renting..
