Why couldnt I cut down the shaft on my old driver.........Its a Mizuno T-zoid driver and let my little guy use it as a driver?...........Any thoughts on this?

In reality the answer is absolutely you should not do this. Of course if your little guy is 14 years old, 5'10" tall then probably not an issue.......

The heads are too heavy the swing weight is all wrong, the grips too fat and they need greater loft to get the ball airborne.

There are plenty of good sets out there that are specifically designed for kids (US Kids, TM, Nike etc.), alternatively there are also a number you can buy as individual clubs if you want to see if he likes it. You can even go to one of the local club builders and they will probably build you one specifically for your son at a pretty reasonable price.

Bottom line - there are reasonable priced clubs out there for kids that will help his enjoyment of the game, why cut down your cast offs?

Why?
Cause that's how most of us learned.:D
(after we walked home 28 miles through a driving snow storm to our home that was a cardboard box submerged below the water).

How big is he?
What flex is it now?
Is it light weight graphite?
If you shorten it just from the butt you will remove most of the stiffest part and put a smaller grip on it, you may get away with it?

It certainly is not the best way, but sometimes - if circumstances are - well you know.

Shafts for Juniors are very inexpensive, I would recommend just going that route. It is the safest bet. Even by but cutting the shaft you are still making it play stiffer, no doubt about it. I would never recommend this in the least.

Just my honest opinion.

My point was simply that we know nothing about Toski's boy, and if some of the parameters fit, then it maybe not that bad. Hopefully we can get some feedback

My little guy is 6 and I cant find a set that plays to his strengths in his club selection.........I have been to GT and a few others and have trouble finding individual clubs.

The driver head was only a thought but sometimes if you ask questions you may get the right answer.

I find that most of the club sets come with only 2 irons and a hybrid. I dont want him playing with a hybrid at all. And his pattern doesnt really lend it self to the hybrid anyway.

I appreciate the feedback tho. It was just an idea!....

he has a set of clubs but hes getting taller and growing out of it but rather than buying an off the shelf set again. I wanted to tailor it to get the best thing for him........

I am sure if you go to one of the club fitters here they will be able to tailor what you want for him. My two boys have the Taylor Made sets and they liked those, this year when the oldest (9 yrs old) grew out of his set I made him some from components, but we did go and buy the Mojo driver - he loves it.

There is a great set I saw at teh OPGA shaw that alows you to adjust the club as your child grows by using insertes for the shafts. It was pretty cool. I will see if I can find the name again. I know I have the info at home in my catalogues and what not. It is such a great concept they have.

Let me look and post the link

Hi my son is 5 and last year he began playing competitive golf on a little tour up here last summer and will be competing on the CJGA linster tour next summer. He uses the US Kids golf red series. These are really great clubs for kids. The shafts are very flexible and the grips are small for little hands and believe it or not they spine the little suckers!

They have a great selection the only problem is availabilty here in Canada. I've had to call the US reps because the GT service and the Canadian rep service is seriously lacking (sucks).

check out their site www.uskidsgolf.com (http://www.uskidsgolf.com)

Cheers

My son played in the Junior Linkster series in '05 when he was 8 and was lucky enough to get into the prizes in 2 of the 3 events he played in but we didn't go to any last year. To be honest they were run superbly but were a little pricey for him to go play 9 holes ($60 and upwards) plus the cost of joining the program. I could also not believe how serious some of the kids (or was that parents!) took the whole event.
