I'm not sure if this has been covered but I would like to know, if the tour players play retail equipment or is their equipment different?

Good question Louie.
In some cases yes - their equipment is different.
In some cases no - the same stuff we can buy at GT or wherever.
Lots of debate on this subject.
I personally have a Tour issue only driver / 3 wood / rescue and about 9 tour wedges - allthough the retail wedges are coming pretty close to the tour stuff now with the Y cutters, Spin milled and MD grooves.

Thanks for the input. Has anyone seen left handed equipment?

Don't be fooled.
the stuff they play is NOT the stuff you can buy in retail stores, though it may look like it. For example, tour issue drivers usually have a more open face angle than retail. OEMs customize and modify each club to fit the tour players specs, so thay are often completely different than the retail clubs. Even the TM TP series are not quite tour spec. Many OEMs take irons like miura and put their name on it. These irons never hit retail shelves, though many of us would like them too! i.e. Cobra blades are really macgregors.

HUH? Wouldn't they be Titleist being as Accusnet owns both brands?

HUH? Wouldn't they be Titleist being as Accusnet owns both brands? nope. modeled after some macgregors that never came to retail. Lot of people, including myself wonder why they didn't use a titleist design, seeing as they make wonderful blades. Take a close look at the cobras, if you can find a good pic.

I'm sure lots of the stuff from Titleist, Ping, Mizuno is exactly the same stuff you can buy at Golf Town. You gonna tell me the Ping irons guys play are different than retail?? There are lots of one off's for guys like Tiger, and lots of drivers that have a tour run but no retail - Taylor Made 540/580 TP etc. But that doesn't mean that most of it isn't exactly the same as ours. I sold a Copper PING B60 putter to Dottie Pepper - pretty sure it was retail. :D

Care to share where/how you got this information?
Also curious to find out how your sources advised you that Cobra blades are really Macgregors.....
Thanks

racmbs,
check out his thread, in particular, post #17

Pingnut,
I'm not saying every single club they play is completely different from retail, but many of them are modified to suit the individual players needs i.e. different sole grinds etc. and you're right, most putters are the same. I was more talking about drivers.
Tom Wishon wrote a great piece on this subject, but i can't seem to find it on the web! He also talks about it in his book Search for the Perfect Golf Club
Not trying to start a war, just stating what i've read from a number of sources

I read that about the Cobra blades as well - think it was on Golfwrx.
Supposed to be a design from MacGregor that hadn't been produced.

Me either. If would be nice if we could buy retail clubs like components and get them weighted and bent - it would be like just like we are playing tour clubs..

I think mizuno offers something like that where you can customize head shape and stuff for their irons. It might be only in Japan, i can't remember. Super expensive though...
