Someone please enlighten me.
In the 80's when I think of putters I would think of Ping.

When did Scotty Cameron start to emerge on the golf scene and today would it be fair to say they have equal to a greater share of the market than Ping?

I don't doubt that the pics could be legit. Springbok has been very reputable and a stand up guy on other forums.

I would think Ping has a greater share of the market still. Cameron has the snobs share of the market, and since most of us on this board are to some extent golf snobs (when it comes to equpment) you are hearing more about camerons than is normal.

Next time you play on a public course (or any course for that matter) just have a peak around at what guys are playing for putters. Watch them on the practice green. Between all the no name putters I would wager that Ping is number one followed by Taylormade (at least form what I have seen).

Oh yeah and all that gear ain't good enough for Erny to play, why should it be good enough for me to play :)

Actually theres some cool putters there, and nostalgic stuff, but seriously I wouldn't wan't any of that gear other than to stick on a shelf in an office. Something to look at and talk about but that's it.

I think the pics speak for themselves, too. Where would you get EE's presidents' cup tour bag? Not to mention the hundreds of clubs, some of which are one off Cameron early editions.

I enjoyed the pics, thanks for the link, Harry.

I play most of the mid-low end courses all about the GTA, and see Callaway/Odyssey putters in other bags the most. In my experience, Ping putters are usually found in the bags of guys who've been playing 10+ years.

Well the oriignal Ping Anser's that dominated in the 60s-80s still influence the putter market as you will find that shape still most prevalent among blade users. Tiger Woods really brought Scotty Cameron onto the map using I beleive a Terylimum Newport when he first came on tour which was really just an Anser clone, funny thing is to this day he still uses Ping's grips and magic markers out the white Ping letters.

Very true.

I never understood giving Cameron all kinds of street credit for copying Karsten's designs. If Karsten had offered different head weights sooner and machined the faces while working with tour players in the 90's I doubt we'd have heard of SC.

Can you get a Ping putter with a feel slot? Just wondering as I have not seen any.

I would agree that there are a ton of Odysy putters out there, I just forgot about them because I don't like them.

Ping invented the sound slot. Original ansers come with the sound slot.
btw.. that's how the company name came about as well.
The A1 putter (Karstens first) makes a distinct "PING" noise.

Cool thanks. Actually I went to a golf store today (not GT) and to my amazement I found an original Ping Anser with sound slot. Unfortunately it was left hand, but they only wanted $78 for it, looked all ratty as it was brass or some metal similar and was discoloured (tarnished). Still a cool putter and if it was a righty I might have picked it up.

On a side note the new Ping Iwedge is a sweet wedge.

I have a Ping Cushin that has a sound slot, or what Cameron afficianados refer to as a "beach". They can be found on Ebay in the US for about $30.

Hi Will

Funny when an OEM like Titleist blantly copies an original design like the PING Anser it is call an 'INNOVATION'. When a component copy does the same it's called a 'COPY', a 'COUNTERFIET', or a 'CLONE'.

This has nothing to do with Titleist. Cameron did not initially work for Titleist for one.

Also please note that every club out there is in some way a copy of the next as they are after all golf clubs. You like to paint a picture that OEMs are the bad guys. They are simply companies working in a competitive business. Just like cars, but I don't here anyone carrying on about how everyone is copying Ford.

Also you know the difference between a Clone and a Counterfeit, so don't even try to say that these clubs are anywhere near the same. Should I start posting about a a Callaway BB 454 is a copy of a Killer Whale driver?

Hi Mike

I do not think swingweight is relevant with a driver or a putter.
Total weight is more important for a driver and head weight is more critical for a putter.
