View Full Version : reshafting

I bought a driver used and it came with a senior flex. My shots tended to fade now I'm hooking very badly. I'd like to maybe reshaft with a regular flex shaft. I'm not sure how to go about doing this. Should I just go to golf town and ask them to put a regular flex on it? Or should I maybe get someone to measure my swing speed and pick a shaft for me based on the measurements?

guitarman,
Go for the second option. Find a clubmaker in your area and have him fit you properly for the right shaft with the help of a launch monitor if possible. There is no guarantee that just going a flex stiffer will help. A good clubfitter will find the right shaft for you and make sure you're getting the most out of that driver.
hope this helps

The last thing you should do is go to GT and have some minimally experienced tech. work on your clubs, if you care for these sticks at all.
Proper flex, alignment etc. are things that need to be looked at, by a quality certified craftsman.

Guitars eh, me to.

T, the senior flex is probably too soft for you and if you're hooking the ball you're definitely overpowering the shaft (common sign that the shaft flex is too weak). You should drop by and see Jeff at Fore the Golfer (http://www.forethegolfer.ca/) He has a launch monitor and his shop is located in a really good practice facility. He's a great guy and can without a doubt help you find the right shaft.

What is it with all you custom guys and your knocks on GT

The bottom line here is, you don't want to take your clubs to an inexperienced fitter/builder at any shop, period....simply tagging GT each and everytime you guys jump into a thread that discusses custom options shows you feel threatened IMHO.

There are plenty of qualified builders and fitters scattered throughout GT and other small shops around the GTA, the task is finding one through word of mouth and sticking with them.

Believe me, I've had my fair share of crappy work done by a "custom" guy in the past and wouldn't think twice about sending my worst enemy there.

Thanks for all the info. I just tried to call Jeff at foregolfer but no answer. I'll try again later. I do care about my clubs, as I've invested quite a bit. Markham is kind of far for me but I'm not getting any reccomendations for anyone closer so I guess I will travel to get the job done right.

He asked about GT, & I responded.
You are absolutely right that their are lots of 'custom' guys who do not know what they are doing - hense - find a 'Certified Tradesman', such as a Certified Master Clubbuilder and Fitter, GCA or PCS certified, and you now know what you are dealing with.
I have to admit I am not a 'Big Box' fan no matter what company I deal with. I do like to support the 'Little Guy' as he is here for the community and the good of it. Not undercutting every small business that struggles on a daily basis.
I've seen too many 'downtown's become 'ghosttowns' because of the Big Box, weather its a lumber yard, clothing store or golf shop.
Support the business men in your home community, rather than the Fat Cats.
Ask any CAW member what they think Walmart?
- My opinion for what its worth.

GT is good for some things and not so good for others. I guess it's like that with all golf shops.

I'd go to GT for clothing, balls, shoes and things of that nature and wouldn't go to a custom shop for that, simply because of selection.

To get my clubs worked on I would prefer to go to a custom shop because,
well.......the last time I checked you couldn't or wouldn't be able to get you shafts spined, flo'd or frequency matched at GT.maybe things have changed there:dunno:

It's a great store but I wouldn't go there to get my clubs worked on.
A fitting ....yes. A reshaft...........hell no. unless all your looking for is cut and glue.

Does anyone know of any good fitters in the west end? ie Mississauga. Markham is a pretty far drive.

Caddy,

You could go to Oakville golf on Trafalgar and Dundas.
I think there's a guy in central Mississauga if you like.I believe it Skip's custom clubs.he used to do work for some of the kaneff courses if I remember correctly.Don't know how his work is personally.I've had clubs done at oakville golf and the workmanship is great.Joe's a nice guy too.(the owner I think. It's been awhile since I've been there)

Get fitted... find a reputable facility that will help you determine the best shaft choice for your swing. The results are well worth it.
