I'm planning on getting my GF a remote starter for her Contour SVT. Can anyone give me a reputable place where I can get this done. I live in Markham but am willing to drive to a good place. Thanks.

Goshawk,
You might want to check with the dealer first. Due to the anti-theft device on some newer model vehicles, remote starters can't be used. Be ashame to buy one and find it it can't be installed.

There are a couple alarm systems with car starters as an option that can adapt electronic keys to allow remote starters to start your car. Compustar is one that i know works. My sister has one in her new 2007 Civic they used the valet key that is well hidden somewhere in the car to allow the car to start. The down side is that these types of alarms are quite pricey like 400 - 600 dollar range depending on how many options you add to it.

Oh i forgot about that model. That is like the super deluxe model. It starts the car and cleans all the snow off for you ... You can't put a price on that feature.

KHF Car Audio is in Markham. I have heard a few good things about them.
http://www.khf.ca/ - Their website seems pretty crappy but I'd give them a call.
I don't know if they carry CompuStar, but I too would recommend it as I have a CompuStar alarm on my S2000 and love it and know many friends with it on their heavily modified vehicles that also stand by it.

I was in Best Buy the other day, and I was asking about the unit they have advertised for $139 INSTALLED, the guy told me that with all the extra parts I would need because my car (PT Cruiser) has "power locks", that it would come out to $380...not quite what I wanted to hear!! :(

Yeah check out KHF, I have been getting work done on my car from them for about 7 years.
If Allan is still the owner it's still a good shop. I know that they deal with Clifford but yeah compusmart is great.
Ask for Ray and he's a real stand up guy.

Was this a remote starter that has something to do with power locks? Or are you talking about an alarm system?
I've installed both alarms and starters before, it's not that hard to do, but sometimes you're better of getting it done if the price is right. I disconected the remote starter on my truck, becuase I kept starting it by accident, pushing the button when by having the keys in my poket :) I do the same with my cell phone, but at least it has key guard.

Seems to me that the GF may hate you for the gift as it will cause more work for her (pressing start button)
