I realize they don't have surplus square footage, the place is cramped, but this store needs to be layed out better. :help: It's all "chopped" up and cluttered. The staff is good, the setup is bad........any thoughts?

some of the stuff is badly over priced because of the downtown location. I agree, no real rhyme or reason to how the store is layed out. Looks like everthing just dropped from the sky, landed where it landed and than they put the roof on.

I've never been there, but I'm surprised to hear this of Golftown considering the other locations I've been at, they've all been very spacious and clean.

this place is a mess...so crowded, but hey, it's downtown, i'm surprised they even have a store there...you don't see home depot, costco, walmart, or any other big box store in the core...

It is a really tight place, but the location is great. There are hardly any golf stores in the downtown area, and Nevada Bob's at yonge and richmond has been cleaning up for years. They also tend to charge high prices, though it's a symptom of the property rates in the neighbourhood. Still, I was happy when Golf Town initially opened, as it helps give more options downtown, not to mention I have an office on Duncan St, a block north of the location. So while I tend not to buy much there, I do use their simulator, and gawk at some of the gear when I'm in the hood... ;)

The gear in the DT location is more expensive than other locations? I would have thought Golftown would keep their prices consistent throughout locations...guess not.

High rent will do that.I would take a good guess that they do not pay anymore downtown as they do at Scarborough, or Oakville. It all has to do with the revenue break point.

I'm surprised to hear this too. Within one metro area, I wouldn't think prices would be that different... Different cities, different story.

I love the GT downtown. When I visit TO I usually stay downtown and a visit to GT is always a must. I also like to go to Nevada Bob (but prices are high). I go to quite a few GT and usually the prices are pretty much the same. Here are some of the GT I go to:
Toronto - Hwy 7 and 400
Toronto - Downtown
Mississauga - Hwy 403
Ottawa - Kanata
Montreal - Pointe ClaireMontreal - Ste Catherine St.
I didn't see much difference in prices in all of those.
I love the GT downtown, it is the one now I go the most often. It is excellent for the visitors from all of town. I think they are targetting different customers (not savy one like us). I have been at Nevada Bob downtown and often saw a customer coming in and buying a wedge for wayyyyyy more that I would pay for. They do not shop, just go there look at what they have and spend $300.... I guess most of us have a budget that we have to follow ... lol. Maybe if I hit the lottery ...
Have a good day,

To be more specific. Alot of their odds and ends type clubs. Trade ins etc. Really high prices on 2nd hand clubs used as rentals. I'm pretty sure prices can differ from store to store on certain items.

1) Golftown doesn't sell "trade-ins" at any location. (Try e-Bay)
2) They sell demo's like any other operation. They don't have rentals.
3) The downtown store will match the price of any other location.
4) Prices have always varied from store to store on certain items. The
pricing of large sale items (large as in $$$, ie. drivers, iron sets) is
universal across the chain.
5) The downtown store, like ANY new operation, welcomes your business
and certainly doesn't jack up prices to offset their location. Don't be
spreading false information homeboy!! :hush:
6) It's cluttered, yes, .......poorly priced: NO NO NO!!!:nono:

What is your explanation for the Taylor Made drivers and 3 -woods that were spotted at that location? From the 580 series I believe. And they do on occasion carry slightly used clubs. Left handed Odyssey two ball putter for $125 was it? And some other assorted wedges.

They sell DEMOS ! (Demos are clubs used by others to test the club, so in a way they are USED clubs, but when people refer to USED clubs they mean PRE-OWNED)

When it comes to prices Golf Town does have a 5% rule in place. Meaning if you can proof that an item (any item) cost less somewhere else they will match the price and take an additional 5% off.
(just tell them where and how much and they'll make the call on the spot for you to verify, if positive you got yourself a deal)
With that kind of rule in place GT would be kind of stupid not to have a uniformed pricing policy throughout all their stores.

Shouldn't a big chain store like GT have standard prices for their items?

I actually asked this question to a GT manager before when I questioned the pricing for some clubs. They are all individually owned and in general, the prices are usually the same. However, one store may have a "managers special" while the others may not, but you can tell them this and the store will match. They just call the other location to verify and its done. So if you're downtown and see something you like and its more expensive than the other GT's then tell them and they'll match. Good luck!
