So I almost threw in the towel and was going to order the Golf channel from Rogers. Afterall (as they advertise) it's only $2.99 per month (price of two cups of coffee)...when i was on the phone with one of their representatives, they told me yes it IS $2.99 per month BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE! You can either rent the digital box for $3.99 per month or buy one for about 100 bucks...then there is also a $3.99 fee for "bringing the digital signal into your home. SO the Golf Channel is NOT$2.99 per month after all is it?

Bingo! You've discovered the tactics they use to suck you in and take more $$ out of your pocket.

If you do decide to move to digital cable (which you will be forced to do in 2 yrs time anyway) then go to Future Shop and do a price watch on the digital cable boxes for Rogers. They are constantly going on sale. I bought a standard one for $60 a month ago. The HD ones are on sale for 50% off right now. Unfortunately the PVR model is sold out everywhere.

Their PVR models haven't come down in price since they were inroduced. Apparently, there's a company in BC selling TIVOs that work just the same with rogers.

If you call and complain they may give you the channel itself free for a year or so, at least that is what they did last summer when they moved it digital channels. However you do have to get the box.

I got a promotional package from them a couple months ago and the digital box is free for one year. I just ordered their Sports Theme pack which includes TGC ($9.99) but it is also free for the first 3 months.

I have to call them back in 3 months to cancel the sports pack and only keep TGC for $2.99 starting in april. Works for me.

disbanded soon ?

Hopefully - then we won't have to hear anymore NickelCRAP on the radio....

Man I wish TSN was picking up the HD feed from TGC.
Seems like a natural fit to me.

I picked up a HDTV over the holidays and Best Buy, along with Rogers was giving away the HD box rental along with HD programming for a year (10 months if you chose PVR). First time I had anything good to say about Rogers in a long time.

Mind you, in dealing with the HD box (having to call Rogers to request the promotion and the second time to tell them to add TGC) I have been very impressed by their support. No auto-guessing attendant, both calls were picked up immediately and handled very well. I'm hoping they've started to listen to the unhappy customers and are turning things around.

I purchased a digital box before Christmas for my son. I paid $100 and was supposed to recieve the $10 a month back in credit on my bill for 10 months basically making the box free. They screwed up the promotion and in trying to straighten it out the CSR just credited the whole amount back in one single payment. I also am recieving the Golf channel free for 2 years. I already have 2 HDTVs and now a digital box in the house anyway. Who wants analogue? I can't wait till its nothing but HD. I had an HDTV when the cheapest one was 5 grand and there were only 2 HD channels.
I haven't had too many problems with customer service from Rogers. Their no Callaway but their not bad.

Right now the Rogers SA 8300HD PVR is on sale for $299 at Futureshop. Funnily enough the 8300 PVR(non-HD) is still 399.
