My family is looking into getting a TOMTOM GPS for my cousin for her graduation, as she's directionally challenged. This gift suits her perfectly, but she may not like it. If she tries it out for a few days and is not happy, can we get a cash full refund? Our backup gift is a watch, but so much less suiting, and obviously not available to use with a future shop credit.

not to familiar with GPS systems, but I'm pretty much 100% positive you will get a full refund. Whether it's cash or not depends on what you pay with.

Future shop will honour a 30 day return policy, HOWEVER, it looks like they will give you a "refund in-store". Not too sure how to read that... http://www.futureshop.ca/informationcentre/EN/onlinepolicies.asp?logon=&langid=EN#03
I bought my TomTom 510 at BestBuy and I know they will refund your $$$. Just read the policy at BestBuy and it seems the same as FS (not surprising as they're the same company). Your best bet is to ask, as GET IT IN WRITING.

I took back a 360 I bought on boxing day a few weeks later...opened and used....I had to go back a few times cause they kept screwing up my refund but eventually it all worked out, full money back.

I have never had any issue with returns at Future Shop. You may have to deal with the issue if you know what I mean. Sometimes the CSR that first helps may not be the best option for getting what you want, but I personally have never had this issue at FS.

My experience was full refund for 30 days for Christmas returns and 14 days any other time.. As long as its in that period I have never had any hassle.

With FS or BB they're really good with returns as long as it's returned in reasonable condition. As long as your cousin doesn't smash the TOMTOM on the ground there should be no problem.
I bought a bluetooth headset too and I hated it after 3 weeks and I just returned it in the original packaging and I had no problem.
With the TOMTOM just ensure that whoever is installing it does it properly and runs the wires nice and clean so that no headaches will happen after.
Or let's just all hope that your cousin likes it and keeps it. So much easier for you right???

My experience with retail refunds it limited to Radio Shack in the States (I've never had to do a refund in Canada, yet). But as long as it's in it's original container with all manuals and paperwork, and within their refund time-frame policy, you shouldn't have a problem. It HAS to be in re-saleable condition. They probably won't accept something like a GPS that's scratched or damaged, or without the original box or manuals.

I think (THINK) there is a restocking fee for GPS units. This is because people will buy them, use them on a road trip, and then return them.
Be sure to verify this before you buy. A quick phone call to your local Future Shop or Best Buy will quickly answer this question. BTW, IMHO Garmin units are superior to TomTom. Better maps (Navteq) and more points of interest.
