O.K. hockey fans, here's something to take your mind off the Ottawa/Toronto bickering. I was talking to two friends at work the other day about the NHL and we started debating what would happen if the greatest stars from different eras could actually play on the same team in 2007. Who would win the Cup? We decided to do a draft (off the top of our heads - no stats) in an effort to build 3 imaginary hockey teams. We drew straws for picking order then simply went 1,2,3 until we had 3 lines & three goalies each. We even included an enforcer. Then I went home and added the official stats for the players selected. Then we took a poll at work just to see who liked what team. We told voters that the players would be in their 'prime'. TGN has a lot of hockey nuts so here are the teams - let's hear what you think! (We didn't have any books in front of us so we may have forgotten some great players - but it was a spur of the moment exercise). The full teams are listed and each player is on a line, but not in the order selected in the draft, i.e. Bobby Hull is not the first pick on team A.

Anyone of those teams are awesome. I would probably pick team "B". A team coach by Scotty Bowman always win... With Gretz, Rocket, etc...

I love some of those lines:

Big Frank, Ti Guy and Gros Bill.... Wow, what a line...

Kurri, Gretz, Brett Hull...

What about Harvey, Horton and Eddie Shore on defense.... + Coffey...

Savard, Robinson, Bourque, ...

Team "C" -- defence is probably the best as a group...

Team "A" -- probably the best goalies...

I could see you guys sitting around and arguing over this, the more beers, the more arguments....

Excellent choices.

I'd have to go with Team C for a lot of reasons.

As a kid, a loved the Chicago BlackHawks and Tony Esposito (too bad Bobby Hull wasnt on team C).

Then as a teen, I cheered for Boston and the greatest player never to finish his carreer, Bobby Orr. :D

I also went to alot of Ottawa 67's games and followed Denis Potvin's carreer and when he went to the Islanders, it was natural that I cheer for the expansion team with Bossy and Trottier.

Gee are we old talking about these guys?

We couldn't pay you enough, you're worth too much as it is. Would you believe me if I told you it was all done on one 15 minute break?;)

Like Team A's goaltending the best, and Team C's defense, but overall I'd go with Team B!!

Yes, these lists do qualify as waaaaaay-too-much-spare-time!!

Why don't you go out for a nice drive on the highway! (remember THAT thread!) ;)

Totally agree with BS. Team B would win it outright.

My choice would be team C. They have a handful of players that I cheered for growing up...........but the main reason is they have the best player of all time! #4

But what happened to defence winning in the playoffs? People love Team B's offence. Is Team C's defence good enough to stop Team B's never ending onslaught of power up front? I'll still take Potvin, Orr, Park, Lapointe, MacInnis and Lidstrom. Tony O, Tretiak and Parent stopped a bit of rubber in their day too.

No Bob Gainey? The Soviets called him the best hockey player in the world.

And maybe nostalgia clouds my judgment, but I still have No. 4, Bobby Orr, as the best ever.

Vastly overrated...didn't The Leafs have Parent for about 1-day as I recall?!

The poll took players in their prime. In his prime, Bernie Parent was good enough to make the Leafs.

Yah, but they didn't need him, what did they want...MORE Stanley Cups!??? :D
