Anyone know of any short courses that are descent and a reasonable price? My girlfriends and I want to play, but not all of us are experienced and most prefer a short course rather than the normal 18 holes to start off the season and build up some confidence.

I think it's ~25$/round.
In terms of par 4s, Rolling Hill (Challenge course) is really short(~4000-4500 yards, at ~stouville and warden), think it's 36$ on weekends, cheaper on weekdays. They have really cheap spring rates right now. I was there this weekend, greens fee was only 22.50$.

Humber Valley is a short course (especially the front nine) that is right in the city (Weston Rd/Islington area) and conditions are decent. Very little water and no forced carries, so a good course for beginners. Twilight rate is $31 and the 9-hole rate is $24. Here's the website:

Bushwood has a nice and simple 9 hole executive golf course. Check out their site. http://www.bushwoodgolf.com/rates.htm

Yeah Bushwood, I played it last week, play winter rules, not in good shape yet, but
it's cheap and short, sort of out of the way, eastend course. I played with 25% discount by online southernontariogolfer check it out.

EMS,
I think Bathurst Glen is a good place for beginners to play a round.

Cheap and usually pleasant.
Bloomington Downs is also good for beginners.
Whispering Ridge at Lakeridge is good as well.
Good luck and enjoy.

Dentonia definitely great starting point. No woods in the hand to start. 7 or 5 iron all the way around for real beginners. Tee of on the other side of the water on # 6.

If you want to travel east, 2 good 9 hole courses...Heather Glen on Lakeridge Rd north of Mertal road and another 9 holer...Hawthorne Valley on Salem Rd North just passed Deer Creek Academy...I have played both this season for discounts...

If you get up to the Barrie area, check out Innisbrook. It's short and has good conditions - much like a good mid range course.

thanks everyone. i went to foxbridge over the weekend, DO NOT GO!!! I can't believe how bad the greens were. You can't play in conditions like that

Come on guy, you're not in South Carolina. I've never been to Foxbridge, but it's only the first week of May in Toronto. Don't expect too much, the greens will get better.

Tee of on the other side of the water on # 6.Now that is just STUPID! no woods???? There is a hole that's 180+ and plays ~200 yards , the average ~90 driver swing speed golfer won't be able to reach, and unless you're michelle wie, practically all girls will have no shot in reaching this green in one.
i asked the owners there, i can bring a 2 iron, but not a 11 wood? and they said, that's right. what a stupid rule...

For a short course, I would recommend Dentonia (Vic Park and Danforth). A little longer, I like Scarlett Woods (Black Creek/Eglinton). Not a big fan of Cresthaven (McCowen/407).

In all honesty, I wouldn't recommend Bushwood's executive par 3 course. It is basically a large square plot of land in which they've setup 9 holes. No trees, no hazards, no elevation changes, no nothing. Simply a flat, square piece of grass with 9 greens and tee boxes scattered about.
The challenge course at Rolling Hills is decent. Not all par 3's so you can actually hit a long club once or twice.

It's May but I know other courses have better greens than that. You bascially can't play a real game on those greens. You have holes and big brown patches everywhere, even close to the coveted hole. Your ball just won't go in the direction you intended, and it will bounce right or left depending on the obstacles it hits. We might as well have just played off the tees and fairways and skipped all the greens.
I haven't played in May before so maybe my expectation is wrong, you can try going there if you like and letting the rest of us know when the course is playable. ;)

Played Rolling Hills - Challenge course this week. At 4800+ yards, you can finish a round in 3.5 to 4 hrs. Marshalls are there to keep things moving. Greens were decent. Fairways are average. Tee boxes below average (many were temporary boxes). Bunkers below average. $21 for early morning golf is acceptable, but the primetime rate of $31 might not be worth it.
Laid out like a spider, there are 8 holes starting or finishing at a central area, which makes it difficult to keep your concentration.
