Yes, we are considering holding an early Fall or late Summer Shootout as well, which will just be purely golf and maybe a lunch. :)

Do you know if this is going to be on the new or old course at Bond Head, not that the old course is anything close to being old. LOL

Never mind, I just checked out the link and found my answer.

Hey - If we want to sign up as a 4 some with 2 TGN members and 2 Guests, how would we do that? Should I just sign up for all 4 of us? or should I sign up for me and my guest, and the other member sign up for himself and his guest? if so, how do we make sure we play as a foursome?

In the registration form, just enter the guest names and your name all in the same form and you will play together. If 2 of them are TGN members, just put their TGN names beside their actual names. Thanks.:)

Getting a great response so far, thanks guys!

Just received the email notification for the tourny, and noticed something there that I was curious about. It says its a "four man best ball", but there is a prize for the Male Best Score...and Female Best Score. How is that possible if you are playing Best Ball...you dont track individual scores there. I think if you were going to track individual scores, it would be Better Ball (your own ball tee to green and finishing out...but marking down the best score per foursome on the hole for the team event, and keeping individual scores) OR, is the "Best Score" for an individual hole?

Am I wrong here...I have been once before!:D

Sounds like a good time!

I think this is what they mean... At such a nice course I'd like to play my own ball the whole way anyway - also, wasn't "Better Ball" the format last year? I didn't play last year, but I don't think I heard of it being best ball

With Best Ball you play your own ball the whole round. For each hole, you take the best score of the team as the team score. So yes, we can also do Best Score - Male/Female. :)

Leftygolfer30
Feb 9, 2007, 09:38 AM
You're confusing "best ball" with "scramble".

A scramble is where you choose the best shot of each player in your foursome and then play each shot from that spot until you hole out, and then count that score as the team's score.

Best ball is like Ego said. For example, each player on your team plays their own ball for the entire hole. If Player 1 gets a 4 and the other 3 players get 5's and 6's then your tema's scor is 4 for that hole.

The advantage to this format is that everyone plays their own ball for the entire round and thereby gets full value for their entry fee. Personally, I hate playing in scramble tourneys so I'm glad they are using this format!

Aha! I got it....I just did a search as well, and it would seem that if it were only two guys playing (two man team) their own ball through the entire hole...its called "Better Ball" if it were match play....but when its a four man group(team)...its "Best Ball". See the two links...

http://golf.about.com/cs/golfterms/g/bldef_betterbal.htm

http://golf.about.com/cs/golfterms/g/bldef_bestball.htm

Weird...because I/we used to call a "scramble" a "best ball" in which everybody tees off...and uses the best drive, etc. We called what you call "best ball" a "better ball" tourny where you played your own ball the whole day, but took the lowest score per hole, per group/team.

Interesting.....

TGN tournaments are always a good mix of competitive and non-competitive groups. There's also awards for the Most Honest Golfer (i.e. highest team scores). In your registration form, please specify your handicap so we can match you with comparable golfers. :)

With the amount of elevation change at this course, I'd suggest you guys announce the tee blocks the day of, as weather conditions will certainly have an impact on the length of the round.

Myself, Barry, Albert and a buddy of mine played BH last year in some pretty windy condiitions and it took everything we had, and more, to get the ball out there and we still were left with some long shots into par 4's.

Don't worry 'bout Scooter - just get in his kitchen and it's all over for him at BH. If he plays like he did last year, he'll be doin' the drinkin'.

Scott and all the others that have been around for some time all know the ribbing is the best part of this.

I'll be counting on my team mates to make sure I make it around the course without getting lost and my 26 handicap to ensure victory!

Well I guess a couple of old Etobicoke boys may have to show up as newbies and stir things up. Although this tournament is 2000 miles away, I think I will fly out and join up with Freddielinkster and put together a foursome that won't win any drinking contest, but should post a good score.

The course looks like a great track and I always love Ontario golf. Then again I also love Alberta, BC, Quebec, Utah, Arizona, Oregon, Hawaiian and California golf as well.

I'm looking forward to meeting TGN's and hopefully will bring my A game with me on the plane.

I read the thread....I think it's a bit confusing but from what I gather, the kid sent him the the money order but it never arrived to Dan. If he had cashed it and never made good on his end, the kid cold have called the police and Dan_L would have been charged with fraud in a flash.

I think he started the 2nd thread to raise funds to help the kid out with his own goods....still seemed weird as I wouldn't have done that as the money lost wouldn't have been my problem, I would have directed the kid back to the bank so he could just have the money order canceled and be done with it.

Anyway....back to the topic. :D

Are the greens fast and hard, or can you stick high iron shots?

It's realtively NEW (South 3 years, North 1 year old), so fast & hard would be more likely, as it was when I first played it late-2005. When I played last year it was an off/on rainy day, so the greens were naturally more receptive!

I thought the greens held well, if that helps at. The course is a good challenge and plays fair throughout.

I thought the greens held well, if that helps at. The course is a good challenge and plays fair throughout.

Although this course did not "suit my eye" and trying to be as fair as possible in my personal assesment considering I had the 2 worst scores I have had in probably 5 years my personal opinion is that the greens were the worst part of the course. From tee to green the course was fine. I actually really liked the bunkers. I thought they were challenging but fair. But the greens in terms of holding shots were some of the worst I have ever played. 4 times during the tournament I hit my ball in the CENTER of the green only to find it, not only off the green on the fringe but down in one of the endless collection areas that seem to be the ONLY way to build a golf course these days, and once in a bunker. When you hit a ball in the middle of the green it should stay on the green, except if you're playing the US Open or Augusta.

Personally I will not play the course again. The 2 weeks in a row of howling wind was enough for me. Apparently wind like that is not uncommon there, and if the last 2 weeks were any indication I would say it will be a tough go for BH. $165 for a course that is kind of in the middle of nowhere in the sense it is far away from the larger GTA population and is not considered in cottage country is a lot of money, and for the average weekend player they don't really want to contend with 30 m.p.h. winds all day long.

I was disapointed and emberased how poorly I played, and the fact I let my team down, but I had a great time with all the TGNr's out there. I enjoyed the event, and the company, but to say the greens held well for me anyway was not applicable. Guess I should of used a ball with more spin instead of the range balls I was using!!:D  :hush:

It really forced you to choose your shots carefully on Sat. I played a lot of bump and run and at least one less club on every approach. Sort of what I imagine scottish courses to be like. The gents at bondhead said they should be more receptive a little later in the summer.

and for the average weekend player they don't really want to contend with 30 m.p.h. winds all day long.

It was a blast to play with the guys two weeks ago but BH has also seen the last of me. Last year I posted that I thought this was a nice $70-80 golf course. Even at that, both last August and last week it was like putting on shag carpeting....and that is not for me.

The TGN event was my second time at Bondhead. The first was last spring in similar conditions although the wind was from the south east, making some of the holes, like 14 very challenging. I was a little disapointed in the greens myself but I guess they haven't had a lot of growth up there to work with yet. I still managed to roll birdie putts right off the greens on 9 and 15
