So today I played my first 36 hole day of the season. Played with my regular group at 8:30am, and then in my club's first tournament at 1:30pm. I'm not competitive, so I didn't care that I would fare poorly in the tournament due to fatigue and general soreness. I did however have a great time, in the sun, and out on the course. However I'm super sore now, and I'm sure I'll be even more sore tomorrow (although I've got a 8:30 tee time tomorrow!).

Any tips on how to play 36 without being totally wasted? Obviously as the season gets on one developes endurance, however given that its this early in the year, what would others do to prepare for a 36 hole day?

No power carts of course, rather walking, and my course is somewhat hilly. I did spend time this morning stretching and getting limber, as well as resting when and where I could. Still, I'm curious as to what others do, say when you're on vacation, and you need to get your body to go that extra mile...

I prefer to eat, shower and chat for a while between 18s. this gives the muscles a chance to regenerate and relax in the heat of the shower. Also spend as much time as possible without shoes on between rounds. (hopefully AFTER the shower. wink wink)

I am jealous though. I can't foresee the next time I'll be able to play 36 in one day with two very young kiddies at home and a hot wife with a passion for ........... Whoops, almost got away on me there.

Hey! I played 43 holes on Thursday at Mill Run Championship. They had a Mon-Thurs special, $45 all you can play with GPS carts! I must say, the GPS was helpful in course management. It probably saved me a couple strokes. Without the carts, I don't think I would have lasted all day. We had a bit of everything in terms of weather. It was hailing for 3 holes and then rained for another 4. Then the sun came out along with a cold wind. My friend and I still played despite most of the golfers retreating to the clubhouse. The course itself was in alright condition. The fairways were spotty but the greens were decent. Still had a good time, got home and conked out!
