If a foursome is playing clean lift in place...how far can you lift and place your ball away from the original position....1 club length ? 2 club length? a club head away ? How does this rule apply when some one is in the rough...can he drop one club lenght away into the fairway but no closer to the hole? what about shooting from just inside OB....can you drop in play if the ball just made it to the OB line.....? not sure how this rule plays..game plays while doing clean lift and place.....can someone educate me. Thanks.....

Ok I will try for you.....

how far can you lift and place your ball away from the original position....1 club length ? 2 club length? a club head away ?

Check Appendix 3 (b), page 108 of the latest rule book.

The amount that you are allowed to move the ball is determined by your rules committee. It also determines whether LC&P is employed from just the fairway or from the rough, too. Usually one club length.

If you are allowed to LC&P "through the green," it means just that. Fairway to rough or rough to fairway, however, as the putting green, hazards, and the teeing ground are not part of "through the green," you may not move the ball on to the putting green.

How does this rule apply when some one is in the rough...can he drop one club lenght away into the fairway but no closer to the hole? As long as it's no closer to the hole he can

what about shooting from just inside OB....can you drop in play if the ball just made it to the OB line.....? NOOOOOOOOOOO OB is always OB

Hope this helps.

I played in the GAO's better ball qualifying yesterday. Due to extremely wet conditions we played lift, clean, and place through the green. We were allowed to clean the ball and place it within one club length.

That was the 'committee's' decision in this example.

This decision really allows the bombers to have a HUGE advantage. Now it matters not if you miss the fairway, just bomb it.

Dumb ruling!
