Is there any harm on letting my 5 year old tag along with me at the range and have her swing away at some balls (with her clubs) - just to build coodination?

Absolutely none! Let her have some fun smacking balls. Just make sure you get her kid's sized club to use, not a "sawed-off" adult club, because the weight will really be uncomfortable and she won't enjoy it for very long. Just keep it fun.

Get her out there with you and let her enjoy the time she's spending with Dad... I wouldn't get concerned about anything more than her enjoyment of being at the range with you. She'll (hopefully) develop a love for game as time goes on.

sounds like a good idea, just make sure its fun for your daughter. I wish that my parents introduced me to golf at an earlier stage in my life.

kewl - thanks for all the input.
i bought her a junior set - and she really has taken a liking to it especially the big stick but since we're indoors we play alot of putting games.
kind of enjoyal watching your own mimic the pros on tv.
my wife thinks that im just setting up the kids so that i have an alibi to go golfing while spending quality time with them!!! Hidden agenda hmmm.

I've been taking my son since he was 3. For the first few years he would hit a few and then putt. I always tried to get him to putt. I felt the putting green was a good place to start as the kid can get a sense of accomplishment by sinking the putt. Until they are 7 or 8 the game is to much for them, in my opinion anyway. So they hit a few at the range and putt and chip. Now my son plays par 3's and is just starting to be able play. If you take them to a course to soon they get frustrated and tired.

Games, Games, games. My three year old daughter has been coming with me weekly for a year now. We throw balls at the fish, build sand castles, she's a bridge and I putt through her legs, I'm a bridge she putts through my legs. She tee's up the ball and I whack it, I tee up her ball and she whacks it. "Daddy hit it higher" is a great game for practicing lob shots.

Started my son at 4, hes seven now. Last year we went to the range many times and to a small 9-hole course. He was great at the 9-hole, running fom one shot to the next, having a blast! He loves to see himself on video too.
Just be wary of them at the range, they don't know enough to stay out of the way of other backswings.
