Ideal trajectory for each club?

Is there an ideal trajectory the ball should travel?

Sometimes I would hit a 9 iron five stories high and have the ball land 30 yards away. Then sometimes the ball tops off at one story, but travels 130 yards. I kinda understand how I achieved those trajectories, but I just don't know what trajectory to practice toward. Any comments?

Consistency is key... if you can consistently hit the ball with a high/low/mid trajectory, then you will be able to play an appropriate shot based on your known trajectory. Being able to hit a variety of shots is also of benefit... hitting low running shots, high soft shots and everything in between gives you options for play.
