On your downswing, i've read articles about brushing your right elbow past your right hip......wanna get your thoughts on what this accomplishes?
-part of the release action when making contact with the ball?
-keeps you on plane thru the downswing?
-prevents early grounding of the club?
Thanks for your help. :)

Thanks for your help. :) From the top of the backswing most golfers move their hands out and down to the ball. An more ideal sequence is back(parallel to the target line, down and then out. To achieve this the right elbow will move down closer to the right hip and this good.
It will cause a better, more delayed release without any conscious thought, get you on an inside path the the ball and help get the hands ahead of the ball at impact. This is a sound fundamental in a good swing.

Shadow, is what you are saying the same idea as keeping your left arm tight to your body. Thus pulling your right arm through closer to you?
I think one of the drills is being able to keep a towel in your armpit.

I think one of the drills is being able to keep a towel in your armpit. There are instructors who say that keeping your pits close to your body is too restrictive and not a good thing, while I have read others, Jimmy Ballard for example, who prescribe exactly that.
If a golfer is an over the top swing wth a tendency to pull, pull hook or slice left to right, a left armpit close to the body may not help. However, if you already have an inside path, but tend to push the ball, then a tighter left armpit will help close the club face a little and the towell trick will work.
Frankly, I am not sure if a tight right armpit naturally causes a tight left armpit, but I don't think so. Getting the arms to come more down and back first is essential, however, even so, it is still possible to let the left armpit move away from the body too soon, causing a push or a push fade. I want a single plane swing with my right arm close to my body so I would place the towell, headcover, or whatever, under my right armpit. Both have their benefits.
