World #1 Vijay Singh will be playing this week at the Funai Classic. Too bad Tiger's on LaLa Land and not in the mindset to play golf. He's having too much fun on his honeymoon. I think he's just chicken to play against Vijay! Defend your title VJ!! Who do you think will win this weeks tournament?

That statement is laffable at best!

I looked at the field, and not sure if it's updated, but it does seem rather weak....none of the top 10 besides VJ seems to be there, so this is VJ's to win.....I predict a good showing from Daly and DiMarco.
Also I should point out that VJ has never successfully defended any of his titles yet.....Can you really call him #1 if he can't do that???

I don't think someone needs to defend the title to be #1...for example the US Open, they don't even play on the same course in consecutive years, so it's totally different. Plus, how does winning in defending titles relate to being #1? Just like in another sport, if a team i sranked #1 by number of wins, they are #1 at that time, doesn't matter if they didnt' win the world series or stanley cup the year before...

Fair argument......but I guess in terms of continued legacy, VJ is far from being anywhere near it right now......

yah, he ain't a legend yet, that's for sure...

I agree with Mok, you dont need to defend a title to deserve the #1 ranking.
Vijay hasn't become a legacy yet but I think he's pretty darn close. He's got over 20 PGA victories and 2 Majors under his belt. I think VJ doesn't get the respect he deserves due to his character. He offended some people and speaks openly, but he's probably the hardest working golfer today and his record over the past 2 years shows why he's the best golfer right now.

If Singh can keep getting some more wins here and there (like maybe 2 or 3 each year?) and maybe 1 or 2 more majors b4 he heads over to the Champions Tour, I'd agree w/you, but right now, he's not there yet......
I think also being a popular player on tour is important to your legacy as well...I think most fans can appreciate what VJ has done, but if ppl don't like him, they'll just scoff at this legacy part....
Nicklaus, Palmer, MJ, Connors, McEnroe were all also popular players which all made fans talk about them even more and built on to their legacy...........an example of a player with a really legendary career but wasn't that popular with fans is Sampras....no one can doubt his accomplishments, but no one has ever talk about him in the same way they talk about McEnroe or Connors....even tho he's probably accomplished more than they have....

i dunno, i think sampras is great...to me, the best players in tennis are graf, sampras...i guess cause at the time i was really into tennis, they were the dominate figures...
like i said i agree with you, VJ ain't a legend yet..but definitely deserves #1...especially the complicated way players are ranked in the pga...

vj has a quirky dead pan sense of humour that is often misinterpreted by people. if you are accustomed to it; he's hilarious!! not in your sitcom laugh track way but more on a cerebral level.
just my 10 cents...my 2 cents is free (altered from eminem)

The poor guy never gets the respect he deserves. I agree with Jaydog, they guy is actually a good hearted man. Just his sense of humour gets misinterpreted. When he retires from the PGA, I guarantee you he will be one of the best golfers to have played. He may not be a Nickalaus or Palmer YET...but watch in time.

I can't say that I'm too excited about whose atop the leaderboard right now...doesn't really give me goosebumps or anything. Kuehne and Dimarco are about the only interesting ones to watch....Lehman has been playing well as of late....
Singh tied for 28th, but definitely still within striking distance.

Well, I guess Vijay can't win them all!! BUT, 3rd place is pretty good still. This weeks tournament lacked a top field and lacked an exciting finish. I think the next tournament that will draw any interest is the Players Championship in two weeks. Tiger will play and so will the other top ranked players including Els and Singh.

why do golfers take rest weeks anyways? i mean, it's not that physically strenuous right? should be like other professional sports, play every week! haha...more exciting! and get penalized for taking rest weeks!

Entering a tournament every week would be nuts! Besides playing Thurs to Sunday, they have to travel....assuming you make the cut. Monday-Wednesday are practice rounds and the Pro-Am tournaments...so basically, you're playing golf 7 days a week and spending time on the range to practice. Not to mention the gala dinners and sponsor dinners at night...its a tiring schedule for one tournament...if you enter back to back tournaments, you play sunday, travel afterwards and have to play your practice rounds on Monday...do that every week and you'll burn out...plus, travelling and accomodations are out of your own pocket..for a lower profile guy who's not making a lot on tour, things can add up...
