Does that car come in all wheel drive?
I recently test drove the Mini Cooper S. It drives like a go-cart. Not near as quick as my Mazda 6 but quite fun none the less. Absolutely no room for clubs without the back seat in the fold-down position and the "S" or Supercharged version takes premium unleaded only. THAT kinda negates any fuel milage savings.
So what else is out there that might be fun?

the R32 is AWD and not available in canada. the Audi A3 which is essentially the same thing on a Jetta subframe comes in AWD in canada with the same 3.2L V6.
the GTI gets pretty good mileage when driven conservatively. I can get 7ishL/100km on the highway. also requires 91+. the new cooper S is turbo charged, they ditched the supercharger.

GTI and the A3 also need the seats folded down...it's not that bad...we've had three bags and three passengers in our mini
the new mini cooper S is a turbo now....the base engine also needs premium :(

i "could" put 4 bags in the hatch with the woods out in the GTI with ease. the A3 seems to be based on the jetta subframe so the hatch is bigger. i have a 10" in the hatch now so i can hardly get my bag in there now.

Don't buy a mini for fuel efficiency. Buy the Honda Fit or Toyota Yaris. THey also get $1000 rebates for being so fuel efficient ($1k direct from Honda, $1k from govt for the Toyota).

There ARE limits to what I'll drive in the interests of saving fuel. The car has to have SOME coolness to it and preferably NOT be a death trap. It'd be nice if it wasn't dead slow too but I guess theres also limits as to whats possible.

the mazdaspeed3 or the base model Mazda3 is probably a better compromise than a mini
Personally the GTI 2.0T is a GREAT compromise...get the 4 door and I believe the insurance is a LOT less. Good value at about 36-38K out the door.

I read that an oil change for the Mini is up around $200. If true, that's insane.
If you want something fun to drive, get yourself a Honda CRX. I had an 87 and 91. Most fun I've ever had driving a car.

I drive a Mini Cooper S JCW (John Cooper Works).. 210hp on tap, over 180 lb-ft of torque. This thing is plenty fast. Fuel mileage is quite acceptable, it is definately better than the WRX I used to drive. Full tank with mixed hwy/city will get you about 500km, even with the JCW mods.
Oil changes do cost $200, but this is an annual event, maybe longer. The computer will tell you when to bring it in. Typically it's about every 16-20,000 km per oil change, so that's the same as a $50 oil change every 5000 km.

Here is what the Super GTI looks like LOL!!!!
Volkswagen Golf GTI W12 650
3.7 seconds, 325 km/h, 750 Newtonmeters
Its 6,0 Liter Biturbo engine is longitudinal and placed directly behind the driver and the front seat passenger. The Golf GTI W12-650 differentiate itself in this way from the classical central engine car. A 6-speed automatic transmission transfers 750 Newtonmeters (at 4.500 rpm) to the rear axle. It catapults the Golf GTI W12-650 to 100 km/h in 3.7 seconds. With a maximum speed of 325 km/h the Golf GTI W12-650 leaves behind nearly all of the world's supercars.

in the comments someone said something about coolant/oil lines not being there so it might not actually be a block but that is what one looks like and for anyone on here that has programmed one of those machines. I'd love to see the code file it'd be gigantic
