On Saturday May 26, 2007 while most of the forum was out in belleville for the TGN-Ottawa Ryder Cup matches, a new TGN Heavyweight Champion was crowned. After holding the championship over the winter, Westbeach was finally dethroned at Ballantrae Golf and Country Club. Newly crowned champion Fresh won the match with a brilliant up and down par from the deep greenside bunker on the 17th hole to take the match and win his first championship.

Like a shark smelling blood in the water, Fresh picked apart the reigning champion throughout the day with his superb short game making pars from all over the course.

That is correct. I am a fighting champion and the stipulation with my match on sat with Westbeach, was if I win, Focal becomes the #1 contender and gets a match this coming saturday at Highland Gate.

Dubbed the battle of the Short Hitters, Focal vs Fresh for the TGN Heavyweight Championship will take place June 2nd!!!!!!!!

I'm not sure that your mentor can remember not having a short came.

Conversation between nobdyhere and fresh:

nobdyhere: "Ok now, when you when you approach your ball and you know you are going to chunk it, aim there so it chunks off the side of the hill towards the pin."

fresh: "That's cool. What about a lilly dip?"

my mistake...it's a net score match according to the rules

Heavyweight Division:

- Open to all members of TGN
- Will be Played as net scores
- Cannot be defended or challenged at a course in which one player is a member (there cannot be home course advantage)
- Title Holder must defend against any challanger, where the game can be set up for the golfers
- Teams can be arranged between friends or found on TGN in the "Finding Playing Partners" Thread
- In the event of a net tie, the Title Holders retain the championship
- Matches are to be 18 holes

Isn't that funny .. how i was labeled the guy with no short game and i taught you a short game this year .. thats too funny!!!!

Thanks Dixon for the confidence boost in my putting abilities. I have to admit though it's all Scotty watching him dissect putts helped me understand how to read breaks and weight.

I heard Flakes wants a piece too and i think luv2golow would like a shot. Well rules should state that the title defense can only be within the same foursome. There can not be a challenge from another group. But thats up to the commissioner, Jeff Swain (the person who started it all). I believe he was going to start a Low Gross Single's Title though.

So there would be 3 championship titles up for grabs:

Single Low Gross - To be decided if it will happen
Single Low Net - held by Fresh (15)
Team Low Net - held by Nobdyhere (14) & Racmbs (5)

I call BS....the title should be on the line no matter where the person is in a group. I for one, don't want to have to wait the entire summer just to get a crack.

I want to challenge for the overall title...and I think with my HDCP I have a lot more to lose and will have to play my absolute best to take it from LuLu...I mean, Fresh. :D

From my understanding, a title challenge is in a match between 2 players within the same group...how can i play you scott when ure playing a hole behind and i have no idea whats going on in a somewhat match play type event. you dont see in the ryder cup tiger player sergio, but sergio is playing in the group behind tiger...that makes no sense.

and dont worry...you wont have to wait all summer for a crack at the title...esp since ive played what 9 rounds this summer, at least 5 of them have been with you...lol

and as current WWE champ John Cena says...IF YOU WANT SOME...COME GET SOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's bunk and I've already brought this up to Swain. The whole idea is the need to feel a little pressure, so why should it be restricted to one match within that foursome? And why do you need to know how I'm doing if I'm playing behind you, when all you need to be concerned with is your game. Tournaments are run just like this, as is Ryder Cup and any other matches that take place. The game is bridged on honesty and if you can't trust the player behind you to score an honest match, then they shouldn't even be allowed to compete. This isn't match play, it's stroke play.

Yer just acting like a gurl LuLu.....

Youre just jealous that IM THE CHAMP! HAHAHA

jokes bud

i understand what youre saying and in a tournament i do agree that someone not in the 'last group' could steal the tournament and win it from the proverbial leader. but i was under the impression that it was a challenge made by someone to the champion that they play a match against each other and not in a 'royal rumble' sort of thing where the winner takes the title.

without a doubt i think something like that would be great...we pick a day have a bunch of groups, and the winner at the end (taking into account hdcp) is the champion...i would definitly throw my title up for grabs in an event like this.

Call it the TGN Royal Rumble....

maybe this would be a great chance to have the Heavyweight Champ (low score not including net) and Intercontinental Champ (net score) decided...

but til then...please read my signature...HAHA

it's a match play not a royal rumble...if the champion chooses, he/she can defend against others in the same group...but to have a match with a player in a different group just doesn't work....

in match play, you play the opponent. Your good shot will put a different pressure on your opponent. That's why there is the "furthest from the hole" rule in match play.

Given that there will be an event at KV in July...I say, that would be a GREAT time to have the royal rumble for the singles then (NET & Gross).

I like the idea of the champ choosing a 1 against 1 or a 4 some challenge.

Royal Rumble sounds like fun! I think we need a cage or something for that match.

update - June 3
a fun day by all. From what I hear, there's a new tag team champ in Swain and Wayland. Congrats guys...you took out the previous champs after their long run at the top. Didn't help that the nobdyhere wore himself out in the crazy heat/humidity by playing 18 prior to the match. He had to be carried off the course practically.

my match was definitely a see saw affair at the beginning especially with myself having 3 real big blow up holes..but by the half I had chopped the lead by fresh down and pulled ahead and away on the back nine. all in all a mentally draining match for both. I expect my rein to be VERY short as I can hear all the footsteps and jostling from challengers.

I don't think there is an official list per se, but we'll have to talk to the Swaaainmiester to find out for sure.....:rolleyes:

Congrats to swain and wayland...we all hacked it up yesterday, taking a cart as swain/wayland did would have been a smart idea as the heat/humidity sure beat all of us up that walked pretty darn good. Our reign was long, but we'll be ready for the next match...and if my partner decides to play 18 holes before an 18 hole match, I'll just have to feed him a beating.

And a warning to ANYONE playing with Wayland, HOOKING is contagious. :D

As for the next group that gets a shot, I'm sorry to tell all of those excited to have the chance to jump at pounding on the current champs, but Akrus and Golferboy are next in line and get the shot. Originally, they were to have taken on Jay and myself, but due to distances we decided it was best to hold off until a bit later.....so folks, get in line behind Al and Rob and you will get a shot at the title.

As for Dixon or the current title holder, I'll be coming after you July 14th.

So how is it you get another shot before those of us who havent played yet?

If anyone is going to be "crowned" those interested should have at least had their turn.
As far as I see the current "champ" has only beaten 2 guys. No offense but .... big bloody deal.

Besides, rumour has it the old champ re-invented the "Van De Velde" and now losing a HUGE lead is a called a "FRESHIE" !!

Awww that's just mean.

I would suggest that the current title holders start a new thread in which challenges can be made. That thread should have NO CRAP whatsoever, not even conversation. Just

challengers: "so and so and I would like to challenge you guys, please PM for arrangements"

champs: "match confirmed for Sat@somecourse"

And then if the title changes hands, a new thread can be made. All these "I want a shot" posts buried deep in these other threads are impossible to track.

racmbs, between my hooks and nobdyhere's shanks...that sure was some purrrty golf on display I tell ya!!

I don't have first crack....I'm simply saying that the next golf game I am playing a that has the champion, I want to be in that foursome to challenge.

The heat/humidity was killer for me yesterday.....I really wish we would have taken a cart, now that I think back. Normally HG isn't that hard to walk, but with the hills and humidity, it didn't help at all.

I think that system works well. If not the logistics of the whole thing is practically impossible. If I had had the opportunity to challenge yesterday, I'd have been the new champ. I'll just patiently wait on the contenders list, I know I'll get my shot eventually:D:D.... But I have no intention of getting bent out of shape about it, after all, it is just a plastic belt....:eek:
