Played in my first Duffer's Dream event on Saturday and it was the first time I have ever played a competitive round with a caddy, and I can say for sure it totally helped. Leftintherough volunteered his services and he needs to be credited as being a big contributer to the 79 and 4th place finish I managed to put together.

LIR kept me composed, but allowed me to blow off steam when needed. He lined up every shot and was a great help on the greens as well. I am red/green colour blind and therefore have a tough time reading greens, particularily on courses I have not played before. I don't think a sub 80 round would have happened if I didn't have him on board.

I can totally see how caddies are a "necessity" for the big boys and how a player/caddy team can be a BIG advantage for the pro's. For me anyway I found I had way more confidence and therefore was able to execute the shot much better when I had someone watching me, and making sure I was lining up to the target correctly. I was shocked to realize how poorly I set myself up on my own. On pretty much every shot LIR had to realign my feet. He was also able to pick up some mechanical breakdowns on certain swings which helped me on the next shot not to repeat the mistake.

A big thanks to Leftintherough.....and if we had made that eagle on 18 I think we could have doubled our skins......next time we'll make the putt!! A few thousand practice 3 footers will clean up those putting stats!!! ;)

OK, So now I'm looking for a cool caddie name to go with my new job. :D

Any suggestions from the TGN faithful? So far, Klondike is the only working suggestion.

I enjoyed the day, spent a lot more time reading putts than normal. The other guys in the group had commented on how good I was reading the putts, but it was a team read with HN. It was interesting to see how far off my read was while actually not putting.

For me, the value was working and analysing course strategy, especially on a course that we never had played before, and dealing with the bgreen speed and reads through on and off showers.

Next up is to finish in the top 3.

How about Sherpa Joe? Those sticks of hogannut must weigh a pound each.

Good one! Your not kidding about the sticks. He has them at an E6 swing weight, a yip stick putter, a small buchell of apples and brings 5 gallons of water on board. I brought an old cart to haul the load and it almost died from the strain.

OK....in all fairness to me....they are E3's, and I have ONE apple, ONE banana, and some energy bars. I only have 2 gallons of water but they are frozen. However....I noticed the few times I pulled the cart around it was harder than the pull cart I used in the mid-am GAO qualifying. Those big wheel carts are superior to that pull cart. Maybe we could try your power cart? If all it needs is a battery I could buy one. THere is that power cart place in Ajax I'd like to check out anyway.

I betcha you slept well last Sat night??

Ha ha ha. reminds of the time I thought I'd check out the competition level at a pro Great lakes tour event in '03 before registering myself.

The event came to Paris Grand which is a tough walk on a mild day with a Sunday bag.

The player is sponsored by Taylor Made ( I think, can;t remember ) and shows up with a 10 1/2" staff bag fully embroidered with rain gear, umbrella, water ... yeah, he brought everything just like I would.

So we get together and talk for a bit while he hits balls on the range. He's thinking about getting a power cart cause he's heard the course is a tough walk.

Me being the local boy ..... and stubborn as a mule about not backing down, I say "no problem, I can carry the bag and we'll walk". :hush:

Well doesn't it get to at least 33* and he hit it all over the map.

Needless to say we took the cart on day 2 cause the walk almost killed him

O ya, I forgot the bag of cement in the bottom to keep your patio umbrella from flying away......

I'll price out a three wheeler to save all. Whats the total weight of the bag, 150lbs or so?

150 with the FROZEN water, 140 for regular water.
