I played the Championship course at Rolling Hills yesterday from the whites with another member of the forum, and shot a 75! I've never come close to a score like this before. I'd say my handicap is 20, and I've played on par with my handicap at this course many times before. Being Rolling Hills, and at 6100 yards, I'm not feeling as good as I would be playing almost any other course. I made a promise to myself a few years back that I wouldn't game the first Cameron I ever owned until I broke 80. Now that I have at Rolling Hills, it just doesn't feel right. It's not the most valuable putter, but I guess it does have some sentimental value now. It's an original 1997 Oil Can Laguna still in plastic. Just wondering what everyone else thinks? I've only been out a handful of times this year, and don't expect to be posting scores like that until I retire. What to do?

It seems like it means alot to you. I'd weigh what potential actions you could regret. I serious doubt you'd regret leaving it ungamed or in the plastic. I mean, you can always buy another cameron to game with and keep your original cameron as your, well, original. However, I think while you may not regret gaming it, there is a potential to do so, so I wouldn't. I guess I'm wearing my utilitarian cap today. I wouldn't game it. If you really want to play a cameron you could always pick up a new one. It sounds like this one means a bit to you.

Although I don't play it anymore I still have a Ping A-blade putter that was given to me by my father when I was 15 years old. It's OK to move on, and keep your memories. I don't think you should hold yourself to a comment that really was kind of tongue and cheek. You don't have to be so hard on yourself.

Enjoy what you did, but don't let it "spook" you or get in your head. However you have now proven to yourself you can shoot a good number, and 75 is a good number on ANY course except for a par 3, so enjoy, give yourself a pat on the back and keep playing!! Congrats!

If you can afford it, by another Cameron to be your gamer and put a banner on your original to celebrate your achievement.

Congrats on your round!

Well....The thing is that I've used over 10 Camerons at different times. Yesterday, I had the Newport Beach out for a stroll. Might be keeping that in the bag for a while.

I have to second that. 75 IS a good number on any track. You still have to hit the shots and make the putts regardless of the length.

You're obviously putting well with your current wand. Why not keep the gamer your scoring well with in the bag?

Try to keep in mind that even the best players in the world don't often repeat a great performance so try not to be disappointed today when you can't seem to do anything right on the links.

Take yourself and the loved ones out for icecream to cellebrate. If they don't wanna, I'm in. :D I LOVE icecream!

As I understand it, a long time ago you decided that "playing your original Cameron" would be your own personal reward for breaking 80.

Well, you've earned your reward. By a wide margin, I might add.

I guess when I originally set this goal in my mind, I assumed that I'd be posting better scores consistently. If it were later in the season, I'd surely feel more comfortable. For now, I wouldn't hold my breath to break 90 the next time I'm out. It's just too soon, I think.

It's just a putter. Use it....you deserve it.

Based on all your reservations, I think you're more concerned with the value of the putter than you are about the consistency of your scoring. You achieved a goal you set for yourself (and I'll assume that even if it is a fluke, it will happen again at some point in time). So what's the difference if you use the putter now or later?

If you're a putter collector and that's what's holding you back. Then I say you reward yourself differently. Buy another Scotty for the collection. That way you have a goal to strive for and you'll be really happy when you achieve it.

Ondahl,

Just remember, you beat Michelle Wie today  That's an accomplishment.

Break out the damned putter, and let's see some bleeding :D

Being Rolling Hills, and at 6100 yards, I'm not feeling as good as I would be playing almost any other course.

Don't short change yourself... according to the GAO handicapper your score at another course like the white tees at Station Creek South would still be equivalent to about 78... still well below your target.

Ice cream is in order here... congrats!!!

And yes... I am fully aware that I have too much time on my hands... clearly just watching the time tick away here at work...
