I'm determined to get in better shape this year, one of my issues is that, if available, I always opt for the convenience of a cart.
This year I want to start walking more often, however I'm still a bit undecided if I should get an ultralight (Sunday style) bag like the Ping Moon Lite or just get a Push cart (3 wheels) and use my standard cart bag.
I'm looking for suggestions, Pros and Cons about these two options

I am not necessarily about to change to a carry bag for fitness, although it wouldn't hurt, but I see myself jumping on a course with little notice sometimes and not having to worry about the pull cart being onboard is going to be nice. Not to mention shlepping it in and out of the house will be lighter.
I just have to ensure I limit my current supplies of balls tees etc etc.

I had a carry bag last year and vowed to walk for the excercise. This year I still walk but I'm using a 3 wheel push cart. I found I was getting a bit too tired by the 14th hole and not able to swing the club as good.

Bags can get heavy but i hate the inconvience of the pull cart and it really sucks on hilly courses, specially when you don't hit it straight. lol

I am a walker through and through. Whenever I have anything extra onboard like an umbrella or extra clothing I push a cart. However, most of the time I carry. It's very convenient as you can always take the most direct route. I have a Ping Moon bag and a Taylor Made Sunday bag which both have only 1 strap. However, I just purchased a Wilson "small bag" which is between the aforementioned bags and say a Ping Hoofer. It has a double strap and a small flip stand that allows you to keep the heads from touching the ground. It is an excellent bag for $69 at GT. Key to carrying is take minimum balls, tees, divot tools, sharpies, yardage books, extra gloves, etc. And of course, only 14 clubs.

This is the bag I was thinking Ping Moon Lite (http://pinggolf.com/bags_moonlite.html)
I already have the push cart (Bag Boy) but don't really like using it (I have an OGIO Stinger bag, so between the bag, the cart and all my stuff can get pretty heavy)

Im a walker and I've always carried a PING Hoofer ever since the two strap revolution.
Push carts are nice for your significant other if she's a beginner. While you carry its pretty easy to push hers along at the same time while she swears at you for asking her to play.

I'm a walker as well....have a three wheeled Sun Mountain Speed cart but with two 2 seater vehicles I have no way of getting my clubs and my cart to the course so it sits unused in my garage.

for me the best balance is a decent cartbag strapped to a push/pull-cart and walkin' a course.
power carts are OK for charity/corp. events where they're mandatory anyways and you're in for a 5.5h+ round and you're not really there to golf.
the push/pull-cart with cart bag scenario gives me room to carry my stuff (snacks, water, raingear, ballz...) but gives me the mobility to head straight for my ball with all my weapons in tow after each shot and the physical benefits of walking without strapping on the equivalent of a 30-lb weight vest which as an early poster mentioned adds to the overall fatigue factor which i feel around hole #15 when i'm carrying with a carry bag.

I normally walk almost exclusively, but I do use a pull cart. Most of the time (except when I've injured myself), I much prefer the freedom to be able to head straight to my ball. The cart makes it a bit easier to carry some emergency rain gear, water and snacks.
Now if I could just keep my ball in the fairway more often...

I use a Mountain Speed Cart/ Bag and it works great. This week I was using the umbrella holder with an umbrella to stay in the shade when walking. Made a big differenceI purcahsed the cooler bag option and it's also very useful.

I'm 51, overweight and always walk and carry my bag if allowed by the course. I do it a little for fitness but I find it more convienent to get around the course. I prefer to walk, once again for fitness, but also it gives me time to think about the next shot, have a good look at the terrain and also enjoy the course.
Most of my buddies walk and carry.

thanks for all the replies
Does any of the "carry walkers" use a Sunday type bag? (or a super light one?)

I'm a carry-walker through and through. Half the reason I golf is for the exercise and I feel like I get an extra workout from carrying my bag. To answer your question mirak, I don't personally use a Sunday bag or whatever, I have a Taylormade carry/stand bag.. It would be nice if it was a few pounds lighter, but I'm not fussy.
My legs are much stronger this summer, and that's a good thing.

I generally walk, but only because I'm a cheapskate. If I was given the choice between a free cart or walk, I'd take the cart everytime. For me, walking - or playing golf for that matter - has no exercise/fitness value. I play *real* sports to get my workouts in. :D
*runs and hides from those that believe that golf is a sport and not a game/leisure activity* :p

I find that not only does a cart rob you of the chance to get some exercise but it totally interupts the flow of the game and you save $$ by walking as well. The latest carry bags are light and if you keep the balls and accessories to a minimum it shouldn't be a problem. You might want to start on courses that are realtively flat like Silver Lakes or Hidden Lakes and then work your way up to the courses that have more elevation changes. You will probably find that as time passes you will have more and more energy walking up 18 and your heart (and significant other) will love you for it. Perhaps others can suggest courses that are less undulating in terms of terrain.
Good luck and good health!

i've had both. I started with a sunmountain cart and sunmountain bag. Loved it. Then i decided i needed a smaller bag for the driving range, so i went out and bought a sunmountain superlight 3.5 carry bag. i just love it. I also take this smaller bag on trips (with the kid's and wife's bags in the trunk, cart bag just won't fit no matter how i stuff and cram things in there). My first time out on the golf course with the carry bag, i was surprised how effortless it was to carry the bag and do 18 holes. Now i'm in a dilemma. I've got a relatively new 3 wheeled cart and stand bag and i prefer to use my carry bag. what do do??? one thing i've heard about a carry bag, is that if it doesn't fit properly or do it's job properly, the wearer will suffer. make sure you try it out at the store with a full set of clubs inside it. try it on and walk around the store for a bit. i did just that before deciding on the sunmountain over the mizuno aerolight.

Keep the receipt for the 3.5
I recked two bags in less than a year. Sunmountain has taken out too much material out of them, making them weak
Great bag but can't take the high number of rounds
One of the only bag made in a left handed model
