Welcome to the forums... do you own clubs? have you ever played? ever been to the driving range?

I think the driving range is definitely a good start. Very basic, just learning how to swing. I know I enjoyed hitting balls with a driver just to see how far I can hit it... that's really what got me hooked. Then when you start going to a course (preferably short wth more Par 3 holes), you'd start focusing on other aspects of the game besides the long drive ;).

Hey Golfsuperstar... I like your humour. I think the best place to start is at your local driving range. You don't need to buy clubs or shoes or any equipment yet. Just rent what you need and hit some balls. Go with a friend or two. Or go by yourself, the range is the best place to meet other beginner golfers and get tips from the more experienced golfers.

welcome golfsuperstar,
lessons from a certified pro early will get you on the right track and prevent you from developing bad habits. the later you go for lessons, the harder it is to change bad habits. ;) take it from someone who's been there.
after that you can go online; there are a lot of sites out there offering free instruction. or if you have specific questions, posting on a forum like this is a great resource.
have fun!!

jaydog is right, getting lessons early will prevent bad habits from forming, which is essential imho.
golfsuperstar, if you need any further tips don't be hesitant to ask it here in the forum!

i'm not sure where you would find a good driving range in montreal, perhaps someone else on the board can help with that, but when you are picking a driving range, you should try to find one that allows you play on the grass versus playing on mats, that way you get a better feel of ball striking.

yeah. start hitting off mats or tees until you are pretty consistent then move on to grass.
if you can strike the ball well off the grass, you are on your way.
now all you have to do is work on your short game and putting. that's all.

There is a pretty new driving range on the West Island.
Check out the yellow pages.
