Nothing replaces lots of water on the course on those really hot, humid days. Next best thing is Gatorade/Powerade or something similar that replaces electrolytes and salt lost from sweating. As for food, you'll see lots of golfers eating bananas for the potassium, but it's not really doing them much good at the time. It takes a few hours for the benefits to kick in. Eat a banana or two prior to starting. Energy bars are also good because they give you a boost in a short time.

i would normally recommend a bottle of water every thre holes or so on average with a maximum of pone sport drink mixed in throughout the day. i would pace the sports drink out through the day.
For food intake, an almond and berry (blueberries, strawberries and blackberries are all good) mixture to snack on throughout the day is often good. another option is to have a multigrain / whole grain chicken breast sandwich and eat a quarter of it every 3 - 4 holes. this will keep your blood sugars relatively flat throughout your round. stay away from chocolate bars, etc. Tomoato juice is a decent drink but should be diluted with water. i would also be aware of highly energy dense foods like protein or energy bars as they require a very large amount of water to be injested to dilute the nutrients enough to actually be absorbed properly.

I'm surprised we don't see more "cup-a-soups"...quick/easy, and great if the weather is chilly!?

I keep so Nature Valley Granola Bars (peanut butter ones) i find one a the turn usually works for me. I also carry a bottle of gatorade and a nalgene full of water. But totally agree with having some fruit and banana's as a healthy pre golf snack.

Bananas also digest slowly keeping sugar levels more constant better for longer lasting energy. Energy bars normally full of sugar, leading to fast spikes in sugar shorter energy bursts.

I second the Bananas....and also for the fact that the potassium in the Bananas themselves are an excellent source of energy, not to mention the fact that they assist in muscle repair in the knees....hyperacidity I think it's called, but could be wrong here.

After nine, a nice big dawg with lots of relish, ketchup, onions and hot peppers, with a lemonade chaser and if your sugars drop, a nice Snickers pick me up!:)

Sort of just joking. I wish they would have some healthier food choices at the ninth hole food shack.

I keep a big bag of cashews with me. A little expensive, but they're soooo good and full of protein. Oranges are good too, but a bit sticky. Wash it all down with water. Mmmmmmmmmm!!

I carry a small supermarket in my bag for a round. Before a round I drink a bottle or 2 of water, and eat a tuna sandwich. I carry one bottle of water, and one fruit juice, 3, or 4 "sweet & salty" almond bars from nature valley...i usually offer my playing partners one...they almost never refuse, a banana, an apple...plus I'll buy a bottle of water on the course at some point, and grab a snack at the halfway house....You can be out there for 5 hours...you get hungry.

Peanuts butter granola bar....My favorite on a course....I buy them at supermarket and have 2 per round....

I also drink 2 bottles of water or sports drink per round on average.

If I eat hot food at the course, it is typically a sausage in a bun.

I love those nature valley bars too. I go to a grocery store and buy a box or two of them and usually end up eating one or two in a round (and giving away one or two of them also).

I drink a ton of water, and often bring an apple or two along. I'll usually order a sandwich at the halfway house. Chocolate bars and such will just make you more tired and screw up your game.

Trail mix and lots of water is what I prefer, and maybe a beer if my round is going well.

I generally don't drink on the course. I will if we're out for some sort of event like a birthday, bachelor party, company tournament, but most of the time my game is bad enough without alcohol to help it along

After the round, now that's a different story.

I am actually the opposite... when my round is not going so well it is usually because I have diverted from my natural swing... a nice cold beer to relax the muscles and bring back the natural swing always does the trick for me... pretty sure it is not what Butch Harmon would recommend but hey.... to each their own...

Bananas, peanut butter tuna fish nuts... etc all high protein foods and of course at least 2 bottles of water. I freeze one and use the tepid one to refil on the icy one as it melts. The real secret I think is to sort of nibble and sip between each shot as you WALK to your next shot, that way your energy is regulated properly as opposed to scarfing down a sandwich banana and energy drink in between nines, which will probably just tire you out.

Those bars are awesome but I prefer to not carry the peanut butter cause they melt. The rest of the flavours are fine in super hot weather.

I've never tried Gatoraid golfing but theres no substitute for an abundance of H2O.

To get me through a morning game,I have a chicken clubsandwich for breakfast and a cup of tea including a bottle of water on the back nine.
When I play afternoons I pack half a peanutbutter, jelly and banana sandwich for the back nine plus home made ice tea with plenty of lemon and sugar.
I found that carbs and protein in the mornings and a peanut butter top-up do it for me for the whole day.

Cashew are good cause they're nice a salty but if you want a good snack that packs a punch of energy eat almonds, crazzy high in protein and they won't dehydrate you like cashews or peanuts. Body builders eat them before work outs and I eat a small bag before every round, usually don't need anything until the turn with that in my stomach plus a good breakfast/lunch.

AMEN BROTHER, for me golf and beer just goes together, I can go without beer, but its not recommended, yesterday I played the 1st 2 holes with no beer.( They are birdie holes.. or at least par at the worst) I played them at 2 over, had beer from 3rd hole on, shot 74! ( Well I got cut off from the beer on 17, I threw 1 club like 20 feet and got cut off:( )
