I don't know how to lose the least amount of money here. I have a lot of money in my US paypal account, and I'd much prefer it in my bank account. Their conversion rate is crazy unfair, and I think I lose another 2% for the transaction. What should I do? Open a US bank account and transfer it there?

That is your best bet...otherwise, you convert to CDN funds using Paypal's conversion and lose money.

Or get a PayPal debit card and use it to pay for stuff you get 1.5% back on it too. I have had mine for 4 years...
I also have a USD account in the US so whenever I need money I transfer there and the write a cheque to myself and cash it here
Rates are going down.... relly quick the more you take to convert that US to Cdn the more you loose !
BTW paypal rate sucks but there's no fee to transfer to your canadian account

You currently do not lose so much as they have had some favorable exchange rates for cda due to our strong dollar. Even with their percentage penalty I noticed that my own bank was still at least 1% above their exchange.
