Tell you when they are doing major course renovations when you are booking.
I played Shawneeki this weekend, and it was'nt until I drove there that I found out that they had no driving range, and on 3-4 holes, there was huge patches of dirt where they were working. One hole had a temporary tee. Some courses have told me while I was booking that they were making changes. I think this should be a practice for all courses.
Well even though the course had potential, and the green were slick, I would have gone to woodington if I'd known.
Just ranting!

Why Don't Golf Courses Tell you when they are doing major course renovations when you are booking?!
'cuz if they do, they figure you'll hang up and book somewhere else.
that would NOT be in they're best interest, you see.
so they DON'T tell you ... this way you're booked with them. you won't be goin' bookin' other courses and you've blocked off your 4 hours for 18-holes of golf.
when they do tell you at the pro-shop as you're checkin' in (usually minutes before tee-off) ... you're HOOKED! Fished in! OWNED! Watcha gonna do now?!?!?! ... go home? not play? ask for a discount? try to book something at another course in the next 10 minutes? :owned:

Pheasant Run Westview, St. Andrews Valley or Silver Lakes just to name a few with 15 minutes of Shawneeki..... I'd try them and certainly request a discount....

And they expect you to not return because of it? That's not really good business sense either.

sure, depending on when this 'surprise' is unloaded onto you!
if it is a busy Sunday or Saturday morning ... your chances of having your foursome finding an open slot in the next few minutes (plus travel time to get there) would be slim ... better if you try to book as 2 twosomes or 4 singles.:)

I think you are getting upset at virtually nothing, and others are jumping in without the real facts.
I played Shawneeki yesterday as well. The changes being made are to holes 15-18, more or less. The patches of dirt are where the new holes will be. The current fairways are not currently being touched at all and are in great shape, and the 'dirt' is completely out of play. Ok not completely. If you miss 15 fairway to the right, you are into a new hole with dirt. Free lift.
There is ONE temporary tee, on 16. Instead of being a fairly short par 5, it is now a long par 4.
The greens were in incredible shape. I had not played Shawneeki in a couple of years. I was shocked at the quality of the greens, and the speed. Wow!
Thus I think you are getting bent out of shape for nothing. For a rate of ~$72 (taxes in) for a weekend, I will be back.

there are always 2 trees on either side of the fairway at 150

Correct. The two small evergreen-type trees are the 150 markers.

i yell 4 is 100% correct...it's all about the $. WHat the course should do is to tell the person booking the times what the situation is. WHat I would say is the course doesn't want to give a break on the green fees, so they figure they'll put the fire out when the group shows up for their game. Of course as iyell 4 suggests they will get their green fee for the day, but will those customers come back, that is the question.
If they gave you a break on the green fees, or had something else to offer, other than the blank look you get back from the person standing behind the pro shop counter you might be interested in coming back. Forest through the trees.......obviously an expression the owners of this course don't get!!:hush:

Oh my. Shawneeki for $72? maybe 10 rounds under my belt there but would never pay $72. Maybe $40. You can play Silver lakes for that on LMG.($72) Maybe there is new managemnet as I never played Shaneeki adn experienced great greens. Maybe decent. Subject I guess to what you prefer or your level of play.

Same goes when they airate or airify, whatever you call the little holes to help with compacted soil.

I realize that most of the work is not in play, but when I go golfing I mainly like to see green grass and trees. How can you help but notice huge dirt patches all around the holes your playing? Also the way I drove the ball, some of those patches did com into play :$ !
On a side not the greens where very fast, but I think with the lack of rain and high temps, the greens everywhere are getting fast & firm.

Can you say "Gouging?!" (I know...whatever the market will bear....)
...Shawneeki added to my NO list, along with P-Run & Deer Creek...
........and P-Run doesn't have 'great discounts' on LMG!!!:(

(Sneaky?) Shawneeki
was invited by a friend to play on saturday. never been so i thought i'd try it.
just as an experiment ... as i checked in, my friend and i asked the two guys behind the desk @ the pro shop if there were any abnormalities on the course (recent aeration, temporary greens, etc.) ....
they both smiled and said 'nope. the course is in fine condition' ....
we head off and find
that #15 has construction on it.
and a big sandwich board at the tee-deck on #16 explaining that #16 is now
- a par 4 hole, not par 5
- there is only one set of tee-decks now for this hole
- the managment appreciates your patience as they re-model.
i just couldn't believe that the guys at the pro-shop were so mis-informed at gave us erroneous information!
needless to say ... not returning there anytime soon... nor booking my corporate golf event there.
