Here's the dilemna, my b-day is coming up and i am looking to get something for my car. My CD player is busted... so my options are either buy a CD/MP3 player for the car, or get a satellite radio. For those who have had both, which do you prefer.. and if you choose satellite, then which is your choice, XM or Sirius?
thanks for the help!!

First off I won a Sirius unit and 1 years worth of use, so I was a lucky *******.
Based on what I have been hearing from my pals with XM, Sirius is the way to go. The song slection has been getting poor lately, and according to some, XM has become DJ central.
Now there are a few Sirius channels where DJ's come on ever 15 mins or something, but that is it.
I purchased a adapter to run my ipod through the head unit of our Passat. Having this has also allowed me to have my Sirius wired directly also. In the end I DO NOT listen to FM in Toronto at all, and you will only find AM on for brief seconds when I want traffic reports.
In the end, it is worth the cash if you are in your car alot. I spend 45 to 1:15 mins commuing, and I would go crazy if I lost Sirius.

i have sirius and i love it, i havent listened to regular radio / cd's since i hooked it up, i dont listen to music on it so i cant comment on that side of it, but with howard stern and bubba the love sponge - i see no reason to listen to anything else, i guess it all depends what you are looking for

sirius is the way to go...esp within the next year there wont be xm with the merger of the two systems and all programming will be compatible on all systems (with sirius looking like it will be the one picking up all the xm programming, and existing xm clients needing to pick up new units - although im sure there will be either a free upgrade or discounted rate).
With my commute now to mississauga for work, i spend between 40-1hr each way to work and i love sirius.
My favs include:
- espn radio (far superior to the fan)
- nfl games
- all nhl games
- college football
- commercial free music
- howard stern
- blue collar comedy
- raw dawg comedy
and with the merger, soon to add PGA tour...you cant go wrong!
i have a lifetime subscription to sirius and could not see using anything else..terrestrial radio in my car hasnt been used in months...

Is there such a thing as a portable Sirius radio? I go on lots of road trips in a company vehicle (not the same one all the time) across the country and it's a pain in the *ss trying to find decent stations as I drive through different sections, particularly once I get past Montreal going east. If I could get a portable unit in the company truck, that would be great.

A friend of mine has Sirus and he hooks it up on his motorcycle, his car and also in the house on the BoomBox he bought that accomadates the radio.
So his is portable.

I originally listened to FM and got bored with that- too many commercials and DJs who are not as funny as they think they are. So I got a cable to connect my Ipod directly to my stereo - that was great but you cannot discover new music or rediscover old songs that way. So at this time last year I got Sirius and I love it. There is always soemthing for your mood Whether its music of all types, comedy or news. I listen to it all. Before Sirius I did not know who Larry the Cable Guy was. He is the funniest guy ever.

You bet there is! There is also the Stiletto 10 that doesn't have WiFi and a couple of other things at a lower price point.

Sirius gets my vote too. I originally bought Sirius instead of XM because Sirius has English Premiership football live - the clincher for me. The choice of stations is excellent - could do with something folky / world music though - and be aware that you do get a lot of repeat plays. Mind you, how many times a day can a certain terrestrial rock station play 'Angie' or the Tragically ***p in between all their commercials?
No commercials on the music channels, but they do have them on the talk channels. At least you can guarantee that if you switch to a music station while the commercials are on you're going to get music and not more commercials. I only listen to 680 for the news now - no other terrestrial stations at all.
