View Full Version : I think I'll stay away from Golf North Courses

I booked a golf north course on the weekend and when I show up there is a tournament going on. I had to wait about 90 minutes past my booked tee time to get on. If I hadn't driven over an hour from out of town I wouldn't have waited. Because you have to call a central number and can't communicate directly with the course you can never get this information. You think that Golf North would know if there is a tournament going on. This isnt' the first time this has happenned. Last year I booked a Golf North course and when I showed up there was a tournament going on all day and I didn't get to play at all. Luckily that course gave us a rain check for a free round and cart.

Don't they also run a 10 dollar a round special with a radio station during the summer?? I bet that's a good day the show up.

GN just bought Mystic and I expect great things to happen now over there. You can join this year (or if you have already joined Paris Grand) and enjoy both championship tracks.
Terry, I think the free round makes up for your pain and most courses would give you nothing. I think you've learned that from hangin here and hearing other peoples' complaints with far lesser results.

Wow.. surprising to hear. I have only played Paris a few times this year and have had NO problems. If I ever get home from scotland this summer I look foward to trying Mystic (of course I look foward in playing all these Scotland courses too ;) )

Yeah I guess I was just a little peeved with my experience at the Fergus course and the way they handled it.
However the Brant Valley course here in Brantford more than made up for it last year. A free round and when my wife and I showed up for the round they threw in a free cart as well. As it was my first time playing the course I really appreciated the cart. Brant Valley went way above and beyond.

Other than Paris Grand & Mystic, do THEY have ANY nice courses?

Well .... yeah, you're mostly right.
Dundee is one of the longer ones they have but I always hated the course. Conestoga is much nicer but not as long. And Foxwood is pretty good but fairly short by my standards.
The rest I either haven't played or won't.

Calerin.......in Erin just west of Caledon is a nice little 9 hole course.
It was designed by Doug Carrick.
Check it out on a weekday.....use it as a "warm-up" on your way to Osprey

Say what you will about Dundee, if you can play well there, you can play well anywhere, for sure one of the better layouts in the KW area!

Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh....gotta disagree with you there (about the layout). :)
I would rather play Doon or Rockway (which I do) over Dundee anyday.

That is a pretty bold statement right there, and i'm sure you'll find many that disagree.
Personally, there are at LEAST 10 courses in the K-W area I would play before Dundee. It's actually sad to see what Golfnorth has done to the place... it was once a proud semi-private club, and has now been reduced to a pedestrian goat track.

Grey Silo is under the Golf North umbrella now. I heard its included in next years membership aswell. Paris, Mystic and now Grey Silo. I think these guys are starting to move in the right direction finally.

True or as Section31 said, Dundee was once a proud semi-private course, the same could happen to Grey Silo also now that GN has their hands on it...only time will tell I guess.

I am actually associated with Doon Valley and Rockway golf courses....nothing special...but fun, playable tracks....I play most courses around the k-w area, and as far as playability, Dundee requires a solid golf game, not driver, lob wedge as in what i am used to, and which are what most of the tracks around here are. I don't have the luxury to afford Whistle Bear, which I hear is tough, and Rebel Creek is an easy layout imo...great condition, but very easy to score on. I played Westmount once, it was tough too, and I think I could play better if I played there too.....but aside from winning the lottery, i don't think my lower middle class paycheque is going to afford me that option!!.....if only Innerkip was closer.....

Your related to Doon and Rockway as in a member there or you work there? I have a few friends that work at Doon.
I love Innerkip and play it quite a bit but if you want to call Rebel and Doon easy courses that are driver/lob wedge than Innerkip has to fall into that catagory also.
As far as Dundee, a lot of the holes are straight forward and with six par 3's, six par 4's and six par 5's it needs to be cleaned up and given it's character back that it once had or else it's just gimmicky.

a co-worker and i won and split a 50 game pass package at Rockway and Doon. So we are not members, but we are there enough, and i think everyone is getting to know us...as far as Innerkip, yeah I should have mentioned that is quite short as well. Dundee is quite short, I was just expressing how i use most clubs, and get a full game workout playing at Dundee, you don't have that at a lot of courses around here....that are public, average Joe golf courses.

I really like Calerin. To play 18 there , you use a different set of tees which gives you much different looks on much of the holes.
