I played CC on Sat and it took 5 1/2 hrs to play. Two groups in front of us playing from the tips. After every tee shot they all ran off into the woods/rough to look for their balls. Why won't golfers play from the tee's that best suit their game?
I can't figure out what kind of ego boost hitting a ball 100yds into the woods every hole must be.
We were playing the whites (200-220 yd drives) and having a pretty good round, but the wait on every shot took it's toll and caught up with us on the back nine.
Needless to say, no more playing CC on the weekends, you save cash, but it doesn't seem worth it.
Thanks, just needed to rant.

Same problem at many courses. Big egos along with poor ettiquette or not playing some form of ready golf. all four golfers looking for each others balls. Drives me crazy too. I hear ya but I like Copper Creek. The fairways don't get much wider either.

I can never figure this out.
How does playing from the 'wrong' tees make things that much slower. If you hit your tee shot in the rough/trees from the back tees, will you not do the same from tees that are shorter?? Thus you will still have to spend the time looking for your ball, etc.

Play form the front tees more often and you will figure it out or if you play from the front tees, play from the tips at 7000 yards just once and again, you will figure it out.

Honestly, if you get the time, give it some more thought and you will hopefully understand what people mean and why it does make a big difference. For example, club slection throughout the hole. longer clubs mean less accurate. people will swing harder from the tips and have larger carries to get to the fairways or doglegs etc... just a few things that add up to something you shouldn't do most of the time.

try it first and get back to this thread.

I'll take a 5 1/2 hour round from the back tees at copper creek on a weekend. :D

I'm sure it could be worst. :p

I would think golf courses have multiple sets of tees for a reason. If it didn't make a difference to pace of play, then why would they bother. Might as well have my wife hit from the whites with me.
I quite enjoy playing with someone who can play from the tips. 280-300 yd. drive's are an awesome sight. But I still play from the tees that best suit me.

On courses where there are separate tee boxes for each set of tees, it can make a significant difference. On par-3 holes, most of the white tees will be under 160 yards. Playing from the blues, many of these same holes will play 160-200 yards. I'd say that I can hit my 7i (my 150 yard club) on the green or beside it about 70% of the time. For a 6i or less, I'd say that % drops to 40-50%. Furthermore, the problem is compounded if you put water or trees around the green.

I can never figure this out.

The problem often is that golf courses like to pack the golf course to maximize their revenue. How often you seen that the starter will say go ahead tee-off now as soon as the group in front has hit their second shot. They do not say tee off every 8 minutes or 9 minutes or etc etc. Of course there are slow players and people looking for balls that add to the delaying process. The other day I played 18 holes at angus glen with 1 other guy in 2.5 hours. We started at 6:32 and were done at 9pm. Of course their were no delays anywhere.

Simple, if you are a 90s shooter when you play whites and blues and your each of your fouresome's scores balloon by 10 shots (or more) from the tips, the extra time you need to find your ball then address then play it already costs extra time.

I played there on Sunday afternoon. I got around in 3.5 hrs and that was with being held up on the last 7 holes. Never really have had a problem with pace at CC.
