Ok here we go... your out with your buddies... it's the "Donkey" Tournament... Huge bragging rights at stake here.

What are the cans and can Nots...

For example, my buddies like Heckling and yacking it up just prior to your backswing... actual... almost anything's a go on the Tee Box...

AND when you do your best impression of Tin Cup... the laughing really gets loud...

After you've hit the ball, anything is fair game - but until then people should keep quiet. There's a difference between having fun and gamesmanship.

IMHO, the swing starts when you go into your pre-shot routine - not when you start your backswing. When I start lining up behind the ball to pick my target line (which is how I start out every swing I take), I expect the yacking to stop. If it doesn't, I just stand behind my ball until it does.

I'd be pretty annoyed if this was happening in a 9 or 18 hole round that I paid money for. I wouldn't mind if it's for fun at a practice range.

I think it depends on how seriously you take the round. I often adjust my expections depending on how "refined" the people I'm playing with seem to be. I wouldn't appreciate the heckling during my swing, but once I set up over the ball, I'd prefer a bit of courtsey. I try (often times unsuccessfully, I'm sure you will tell me :( ) to show the same courtsey to the people I play with.

Nothing should be said and movement should always be kept to a minimum once someone has entered there routine. Once the ball is in the air do whatever you want. If it bugs you then make sure you don't do it to them and maybe they will get the idea. But then again if thats what you guys all want to do when you play then who cares. However, if someone I was playing with did this to me that I don't know I would most certainly be very pissed off.

Just remember that there are other people on the course that deserve a certain level of respect when it comes to noise and dangerous off line shots that could result from the heckling. Not to mention pace of play from reloads and mulligans that often result from this type of activity.

After reading his original post I would have thought you and your buddies would be all for this kind game. :D
A little heckling shouldnt bother a bunch of guys shooting 6's and writing down 2's if they can get away with it.

Believe me, with the buddies I play with - every stoke is accounted for... No such thing as mulligans here, and no abuse of the red and white stakes that I see from many players.

If you shoot a 12... it's twelve on your card... None of this double max score people typically do. As well, no Gimmes :nono: ... Ahhhh, it's a great game now... isn't it laddies... :D

I'd stop mid-swing, turn around and fire a divot right into their yap! - Say all you want as i practice swing, or after the shot but if you do that in my backswing its a beaverpelt right in the pie hole!:D

LMFAO, I gotta use this one next time.

My buddies and I usually play for money and one of the *****s likes to say stuff *after* he's hit like "man you better not draw it like you usually do, there's water on the left", "wow this fairway is really soft, it's so easy to hit it fat" etc. Usually it's ok because he's doing it because I'm on my game and he's losing his shirt. But I'd love to see his expression next time he's got a divot in his face.

I'd love to see more heckling on the PGA tour. Most professional athletes have to put up with some degree of (negative) interaction with their fans. I think golf would be way more popular if there was an increased level of heckling and feedback from the (peanut) gallery. While this should not be out of control, I don't agree with the Davis Love IIIs of the world who get all worked up cause someone heckles them.

hecking is fun, but is done prior to the start of my friend's pre-shot routine...it's not fun when ur playing with a bunch of ppl that take the game to seriously.......that's what work/jobs are for. :)

This thread shows whos a player and whos just not.

If you think heckling is all good take up something else, golf is beyond you're level of maturity.
Try hard not to ruin things for others. We all pay way too much money to be out golfing these days and it doesn't take much in the way of boistrous laughter and halloring to have the whole course hear you. Whatever you have to say on the links should not be heard by the group nearest to you. :nono:

Funny noback. I should have expected this. I always play by the rules with the exception of, sometimes, the number written on the score card. Which I might add doesn't have any adverse affect on anyone else playing at the course. I have the nothing but respect for the game, it's traditions and other people's ability to enjoy the game. Heckling would piss me off and therefore I also would not do so. I don't have a problem with others doing it as long as I can't hear it or get hit by balls because of it. The only time it is acceptable to loud on the course is if yelling fore or if you get a hole in one.

The truth is , you only play the rules YOU like - and ignore those silly little rules that are fundamental to the game like this one:

6-6. Scoring in Stroke Play
d. Wrong Score for Hole
The competitor is responsible for the correctness of the score recorded for each hole on his score card. If he returns a score for any hole lower than actually taken, he is disqualified.

I guess you rubbed most of us the wrong way with that "cheat if you can get away with it" comments and struck a nerve as golf is supposed to be an honourable game.

Most of us just play for braggin rights with our buddies.:D

What's a friendly round of golf without the smack talk?
Noise is just another things players use to blame a crappy shot on.

Nothing is wrong with smack talk, if that's what you and your buddies like. Just keep it down so I can't hear you on the next fairway or tee.

I cannot believe that some golfers want golf to be reduced to the level of the right field fans in Yankee stadium.

I like the First Tee approach. Respect, Integrity and Honesty. What novel concepts!!!

I'd say this is just as bad as heckling... Agreed?

I'd say this is just as bad as heckling... Agreed?Absolutely. It's even worse. Why is he moving while I'm taking my shot? Where ever he was before I pulled the trigger was good, why move in the middle of my swing? I wouldnt do it to him. That's not heckling or even fun, that's just bad etiquette. Btw it would only happen once in my group.:D

Now if you hit your shot and it rolls off the tee and lands on the ladies tee, I might just call you Allice and laugh it up with you till it's my turn to hit:p

You should really consider not playing with these guys. Maybe it would free you up to play in a group with some super talented, cool dudes a little more often :D
