Here we go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Welcome to a virtual walk down to Oakmont. I have the honour and distinction of hosting the OFFICIAL TGN 2007 US Open Pool Due to RACMBS home purchase!. This will be the second leg of the Majors Pools. Be sure to read the rules before submitting. Be positive you will be able to honour your commitment, win or lose, before entering the pool. Post your entry to this thread. If you make any edits to your entry, prior to the 06/13/07 midnight deadline, you must include the date and time you made the edit.

The Prize
The way this works is that every participant pledges to contribute one
sleeve of balls to the winner of this pool. It has been the custom for the
winner to request a certain type of ball and for the loser to compensate the
winner with a ball of similar quality, if not the requested type. This
tradition should continue.

Just as we do on the golf course, we go by the honour system here. The winner will be announced Sunday after the competition is completed, and that person will be
responsible for contacting the other entrants to make arrangements their winnings. The winner will also have the honour and responsibility of hosting the British OpenPool in June.
If you happen not to win, besure to send the sleeve of balls within 2 weeks from the conclusion of the event. If you don't, your name will be posted by the winner and you become fair game to the board.
Entry is as follows:
#1- Pick 5 players. You may pick no more than 3 players from the top 10 in
world rankings (as of today - 06/11/07) and 2 (or more if you don't take 3 from the top 10) from the remaining field. The top 10 will be used as state below. Be sure to check if your pick is playing or made the grade.
Top Ten

Woods, Mickelson , Furyk, Scott, Els, Stenson, Singh, Ogilvy, Donald & Goosen

#2- Pick 3 Tie-breakers (see below).
#3- Entry Deadline is Midnight Wednesday (June 13th, 2007). Changes to your
entry can also be made (and usually are) up to that point. All entries and changes must be posted to this thread. The TGN clock is the official clock.
How it works:
-The Cut: Your field will be cut down to 3 players after the conclusion of
the second round. If you only have 2 players remaining, you will miss the
cut and you are out. You must have 3 players to continue.
-NOTE: If you have MORE than three players making the cut, the three with
the lowest cumulative score will be your team going into the weekend. If
there is a tie then the one with the better World Ranking will be chosen.
THE WINNER: The winner of the pool is the one who has the new '07 US OPEN
Winner selected and has the lowest cumulative score [ie if three people
selected the Winner, then the one with the lowest cumulative score of those
three wins]. If no one has the Winner selected then the person with the
lowest cumulative score of their three players wins.
If there is a tie, then we revert to the Tie Breaker:
Tie Breakers are as follows:
#1- The winners final score in relation to par (ie: -12)
#2- The lowest single round score of the event (ie: 64) You do not need to
have this player selected, just pick the lowest score.
#3- Low Amateur (just the name).
#4- What will be Michelle Wie’s first round score (Just kidding, remember? There are only three tie breakers as stated above).
Reminder: Deadline for entry is Wednesday 06-13-07, 11:59:59.
Good luck to one and all.

any way you can make the pool simpler - needing 3 players to make the cut ? i was tired just reading the rules - why not just pick 10 players and add the earnings from the tourn up and the person with the most money wins ? that is the way all the pools i'm in work

TehFlakes

I copied the rules straight from the master's pool thread:confused:

is it okay that IF i lose, I send a golf town gift card for the price of the requested sleeve of balls instead of actually shipping a sleeve of balls? Last time I did that, the shipping cost me $10 from BC...2/3 of the price of the balls themselves.....and I did not think that was worth it..

I don't see a problem with this, anyone have any objections?

So what happens if no one has 3 picks left... i.e. Tiger missed the cut last year, and it is the US Open... if it can happen it will... :)

What about Stricker's collapse!!!! At one point this afternoon with Woods, Furyk and Stricker I was mint - then he went double bogey hunting!!!

Bugger.

Jeff - can I drop the e6's in to you and you can pass them on?

for future pools, when someone makes there pic they should include the ball that they are willing to wager. If someone wagers a prov1 and loses they must pay the prov1 but if they win, everyone has to pay them a prov1. alternatively, if someone only would want top flights why should they have to pay prov1s. This progressive wagering system would allow a more fair betting pool. Just a suggestion

Personally I don't play Top Flites so if I won, I would want to be able to choose which ball I play, not what someone else wants to give me because they don't want to spend the $16 for the sleeve.....the winner of the pool picks which ball he/she wants and the losers are to send the requested ball or something of the same calibre. If a participant isn't prepared to pay the premium for the ball the winner wants, then they shouldn't play at all.

Seems to add complexity for no real benefit - you know the rules, don't play if you don't want to.

Do you believe that this approach would lead to significantly higher number of entries?

Thanks guys for the congrats. It was more fun watching the US Open this year with something on the line.

For guys frequenting Jeff's shop often... I guess you can leave my Bridgestone e6's there with him. Otherwise PM me and I'll PM my address to you.

Does this mean I get to run the pool for the Open?

Small issue with this. It is the winner that won that should be picking his winnings, not the non-winners (see politically correct - losers) that should determine what they pay.
