I'm heading to Montreal this weekend, and am wondering if anyone has a course recommendation? Nothing too extravagent - $80-$100 including cart would be nice, as long as it's within 30 minutes (preferably closer) of the downtown core.

Great - thanks. Very useful link; I suppose I can judge the quality based on the prices on the courses listed. I golfed in Dublin last summer, and I found that the courses that cost more were better (as with most things in life).

Has anybody actually played these Montreal courses and would care to dispute this (i.e. is there a hidden value gem a la Copetown Woods or King's Forest within 30 minutes of downtown Montreal)?

I'm not sure if it's on that link, but I enjoyed playing Le Versant, just northeast of downtown. 3 different courses, very nice setup. I played the Des Braves course and was impressed with the condition and pace (it was crowded that day).

I lived in Montreal for some years and this is my recommendation:

1. In the city, The Challenger links style, I wasn't impressed with it but is just minutes away.
2. The Falcon, one of my favouites, can play very difficult if you played it from the tips
3. Cardinal, very interesting track and well maintained, excellent greens
4. Atlantide, good courses but one of them very short
5. Quatre Domains, excellent 2 courses, the old course is very challenging but the new one has nice holes, I really like both
6. Ille de Montreal, course #2 is links style but interesting, avoid course #1, very short and greens are so small

Avoid:

1. Dorval courses, average courses but really slow

if you have time

1. Try Mt. Tremblant, Le Diable, top course!!

Loko for a little island above montreal called "Ile-Bizard", there are at least 4 courses in the space of 2km square.. just look at the place in satellite view on google maps.. its like half the island is a golf course :)

Just got back from Mtl., and played Versant's Seigneurs course (69.2 rating, 124 slope). It is a 45 minute drive from downtown. The course was very nice - a mix of water and bunkers, not many trees, and some breathtaking views; at $80 including taxes and cart, it wasn't exactly screamingly cheap, but it represents pretty good value. The best part of all is that I posted my all time low (95) today!
