Hey Guys,
I will be visiting the city on business on late July and should have time for two rounds of golf. Will be staying downtown without access to a car.

Hoping for some advice on what courses I should be looking at based on proximity to the Four Seasons downtown, quality of course, price of course etc.

Thanks in advance

what is your budget and how far of a drive are you willing to take, assuming you will be cabbing it...

Here's a website listing the munis (all reachable by public transit) within the city limits:

www.toronto.ca/parks/golf/index.htm

Don Valley's probably the most interesting.

Royal Woodbine is public, near the airport, and generally thought of as tough, target-style golf.

There are any number of great golf courses around here, but most are at least 30-60 minutes by car from downtown.

These are key questions for sure. There are a few munis that are ok...Don Valley and Lakeview and they would be the closest to you.......but typically busy and there are far better albeit more expensive tracks that if you are visiting that I feel that you should try.

The problem is you have to drive 45 -60 minutes to most as many of the clubs in proximity to where you will be are only private.

Golf is not cheap in Toronto so count on $100 -200 for a premium trac

If you are willing to drive a bit look into:

Lionhead
Copper Creek
Royal Ontario
St Andrews Valley
Angus Glenn
Osprey Valley
Eagles Nest ( very pricey)
Deer Creek North

If he is staying at the Four Seasons, I do not think public transit is the issue....

As for 45 minutes, I'd recommend Royal Woodbine upon arrival or departure if that fits in with his flight and either Angus Glen (depending on the open) or maybe Breaben, Lakeview or Pipers.

Lakeview is a $35 cab ride from downtown and if you play Woodbine use the airport limo service from the hotel. The cost is almost the same as a cab to the airport and you arrive in style.

Maybe he is also looking for a partner??? I would also suggest that he join LMG for free and then maybe a Ballantrae, Royal Woodbine or Silver Lakes.

Copper Creek is good...

Eagles Nest is a treat...

Anthony... What do you think of Braeben? I was thinking of getting out to play it this year sometime...

My suggestion is to post your dates and times and hope someone local with a car offers to take you somewhere fun to play.

Woodbine is is alright and Braeben too. $70 to $90.

Copper Creek isn't to far if you drive (40mins from Four Seasons) and is top notch all around. $160

Eagles Nest is also very good. 40 minutes tops and worth it.

Why don't you PM me if you and maybe we could take by phone. I am looking for a fourth and could play St. Georges but expensive. #2 in Canada last year.

Scratch that. Sorry. Got four but the courses all mentioned on this thred are pretty good. Lakeview and Don Valley are fine but are not Championship type courses.

Thanks for the input guys.
I'm definitely trying to stay under $100. In Charlotte NC you can play fabulous courses in the $50 - $80 range.......but if that's not realistic I would be willing to pay more (just might have to cut it to one round).

In town for my wife's business conference. July 19th - 22nd. The times I may have available to play would Thursday afternoon the 19th, or first thing in the morning on Friday the 20th.

I'm a mid-90's player. If any of you are looking to get out around those times.....let me know. I haven't finalized my flight plans yet....but maybe we can work something out

If you want to get out, certainly there are some neat places. Problem is that compared to NC you are talking severe sticker shock..... There are great courses if you are planning a vacation and are in the Toronto area (ie staying just outside Toronto). If you are in downtown Toronto, the access and choices are so-so (based on travel), so unless you have a full day to 8-3, and pair up with someone on this site and get a decent deal, I'd honestly say keep the clubs home.

Toronto is not a bad city to explore....

...I'd honestly say keep the clubs home. Now that's just crazy talk!! Didn't you notice he already has a wife!?:D

Bring the clubs JB!! Lots of places to play and some good people here to join up with. You can always play twilight and use the subway/GO Train to save a few bucks on the travel. Geez, you can probably rent a car for a day on the Thursday morning and it'll be cheaper than taking a taxi.

I noticed this thread and will also be staying in Mississauga at the beginnig of july for three nights. I will have a car but do not want to spend too much golfing as my wife will kill me. I will probably play each night though, so green fees between $40 and $50 would work for me, any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

If you have access to a cab-Royal Woodbine near the Airport.
If I lived in Toronto- I could offer you a trip to the outskirts of Toronto where there are some really special courses.

if you're going to play in the evening-Caledon golf and country club is one of my favorites. It's about a 1/2 hour drive north of mississauga if it's not to far. otherwise, in mississauga, there is a great course called Branben. Also Hunter's glen is a good course
Courses to stay away from: Castlemore, Banty's roost, Deerfield,
